There are plenty, yes. But I'm saying there are more peopel actively trying to blow up the US than there are people actively trying to blow up Israel. Despite the fact that Israel is surrounded by its "enemies" whereas the US has Mexico in the south and Canada in the north.

To avoid any more confusion, I'm saying that terrorists seem to think that the US is the source of the problem.

After having read many of Mathloom's posts in recent days, I would feel safer if he got strip searched every time he enters a plane.

I'm not going to resort to personal attacks :) .

I do think though that your statement is a microcosm of the problems plaguing airport searching/checking procedures.

    Nice talking to ya!

That would actually mean everyone gets strip searched, not just one particular religion/race. I am all up for that!

BTW, nice failed attempt at deflection after being called out by Mathloom.

The most efficient way would be to give enhanced scrutiny (I don't know about strip search...) to the most obvious risk profiles and do spot checks on everyone else. This is in the security interest of everyone (including the ones who are unlucky enough to match the most obvious profile).

Pretty disturbing to see the intolerance in this forum. If we see intolerance here, how is it in the more extreme parts of the Arab world? Scary.

instead of criminalizing every passenger how about if they save the extra security for people who do stuff like, oh, i dont know...pay cash for tickets, dont have any luggage, dont have a passport or whose parents tell our government that they have become radicalized.

what do we have body scanners for if not for guys like the underwear bomber? the airport in amsterdam has like 20 scanners and they let this guy walk right through, even though he paid cash, didnt have luggage and got on w/ a visa.

like 9/11, this was a failure on the intel level, but even if people at the airport had done their due diligence the underwear bomber would have never gotten on the plane. but the response is to make every passenger into a criminal.

I take it back. Or at least amend it a little. There was a guy on NPR this morning making this same argument -- that terrorists will find a way around it while honest citizens are inconvenienced. He was talking about how terrorists can smuggle explosives on board despite body scanners by hiding them in body cavities.

Actually, I think it increases the cost to the terrorist on the margin. Yes, they can find a woman, or an old person, or a white person to do their bombing. They can hide explosives in their butts. But, finding people to fit the right profiles who are willing to hide explosives in their butts is harder than finding just anyone willing to bomb a plane. These guys probably don't live in a United Colors of Benneton ad. Perhaps some organization finds the right guy and makes a spectacular attack. But, it will be harder for them, so there would be fewer attacks at more cost for the terrorist organization in the end. Profiling and body scanners would help counter-terrorism by raising the barrier to entry. It just won't be 100% effective.
