TW was ok.. i got tired of it pretty quickly last summer sometime. Hopefully they've improved it since then. There were aspects like battle that really need some help..

Settlers of Catan is fun.. RISK of course..

I play the crap out of my xbox live version of Catan. It's fun, although the computer is sometimes annoyingly stupid once they decide to gang up on someone, even if someone else is closer to victory.

That's called 'Turtling'. It's a one-trick pony that doesn't last long with good seasoned gamers.

Another great strategy board game was Shogun/Samurai Swords:

Settlers of Cattan is an awesome game- and what's funny is that it's a 'strategy' game with no battles or wars.

If you haven't played board games in a while, the new trend is building the board with hexes, like in Cattan. That way the board is different every time. I played one called Twilight Imperium a few years ago that was like this.

Computer-wise, there are only two games that I keep going back to- Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and Civilization 4. Hands-down the best turn-based strategy ever.

Settlers of Catan is great, just make sure you look into playing all the expansions too. I own the entire set and I must say that the original game by itself looks really simple strategically without the expacs..

I can vouch for Sid Meyer's CivIV (and earlier). While not perfect, very well crafted and fun, if you like long term turn based strategy.

I played this weekend, in fact.

What he said, though I prefer Civ to Settlers. What ends up happening in Settlers whenever I've played is that whoever is in the lead midgame gets ganged up on and never wins.

Risk is the all time favorite board game.

Civilization series, omg. Got four right now but I will tell you what is beating it. Romance of the 3 Kingdoms XI. Very in depth. But I dont think the AI is very smart sometimes.

Now for those asking. Picking SW is so that we can be as close to each other as possible. Not for killing each other but for tagging up and killing others.

My in game name is joesr79. What you want to do is start making resources and troops as you will get attacked. If your familiar with AoE or anything else just think of your opponents as all aggressive. mybrute, gosh I got tired of that fast.

Tribal wars seems a lot like Oil Empires. After sucking months of my life away, I'll pass (this is a good endorsement :) )

Board Games: Settlers of Catan and Risk are the best.

Video games: I love the Civilization series. Especially Civilization 4 is amazing.
I play Empire total war now, and that is also a great game.

True that. I even have this weird german expansion that gives all sorts of additional tiles and rule ideas. We make new maps every time (nerd admittal: I have taken pictures of our best maps for reuse ;) )

We have made all sorts of personal customizations to that game - it's different every time and an enormous amount of fun. Way better than risk, because there is a lot less straight-up chance involved.

I think I may have FAILed on my google image search, sir. FAIL. Perhaps we were looking for this:

 I too, played this in the late '80s... it was on an Apple IIe. We had to load several 5.25" disks. Good times. Good times.

    WELL DONE! :D

How IRONIC  . I will miss the DEKE. :(
