He had Tommy John surgery in 2006. He missed the 2007 season and spent half of 2008 in the minors doing rehab starts. He struggled last year in his first full year back but he's been pretty good this year so far.
He blew his elbow out with bad mechanics, had Tommy John's, tried to come back 2 years later, hadn't found his stuff. Finally showed some signs of life this year, he started off the season 4-0 with a sub-2 ERA, but has cooled down a bit since then.
Liriano reminded me of Carlos Hernandez for the Stros, came out 4-1 with a sub 2 ERA then blew out his shoulder sliding into 2nd and came back a junk baller. I think he will turn out to bounce back a bit better but RC surgery at that young an age probably will derail what would have been a dynamite career.
He's pitched one start in the majors and I already kind of hate him because of ESPNs crazy jockriding. Sad too cause everything I have heard about his personality has been positive.
And yet who have the Pirates faced that's dominated them as thoroughly as this kid just did? I understand that the Pirates aren't a good hitting team, but let's not understate the quality of Strasburg's start. He was brilliant tonight.
Pretty exciting to be a Nats fan right now. The atmosphere at the park was great tonight. The most impressive thing to me was that he managed to exceed the hype.
just like lebron did.. really happy for him. though i don't give a crap about the nationals. But fans aren't annoying like they are about the redskins, so i still enjoy seeing them succeed when they're not up against the astros
It was bad.... We're talking three pitch strikeouts here. Just another reason to love being a Pirates fan.
Looking at the highlights he's got some pretty nasty movement on his pitches. He looks like a young Kerry Wood.
I don't care if it was against the Pirates..this kid is one year removed from pitching in college, that's pretty impressive to have such a debut against any major league ball club
