Yeah, they find out about this in the same week that Amare signs the contract, LOL he totally bamboozered them
These ARE the same Lakers fans that said that not only would they compete for a championship last year, but that they had a better team then San Antonio! I remember before the start of last year how they were saying they had a fast, deep and athletic team, and the type of team that gave the Spurs trouble. They actually BELIEVED this!
The difference is whether an injury would be career threatening. Of course the Pistons and their fans were glad Wade was hurt. If we play the Spurs in the playoffs, I wouldn't mind if Duncan's ankle was sore and limited his mobility or if Manu had to miss a couple of games. But would I want either guy to suffer a career ending/damaging injury in the preseason? No way.
People are saying that people are blowing this out of proportion and he'll be fine. Then you must be able to look into the future because even the Suns and the doctors don't know a lot yet: Suns to seek another opinion on Stoudemire's left knee Paul Coro The Arizona Republic Oct. 9, 2005 12:00 AM TUCSON - The Suns and Amar Stoudemire will wait on at least one more opinion before deciding whether the unspecified problem with his left knee will be handled through treatments and rehabilitation or surgery. Stoudemire will see a specialist this morning in California. Team physician Thomas Carter made his recommendation. "Everyone is hopeful that we come to a conclusion soon but obviously you don't want to rush into anything," Suns President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo said. "You seek as many opinions as necessary before making a determination. We continue to evaluate the extent of the injury and the options to correct it." advertisement On Friday, a Tucson specialist's diagnosis prompted the move to hold Stoudemire out of work. Indications are that he would at least miss the preseason. A sore knee has troubled him since the summer. "We're trying to narrow down what the options are going to be and that's up to a lot of people," Suns head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson said. "It's up to Amar, his agent, our people, our docs, whatever docs are involved." Nelson said he had Stoudemire back off summer workouts on the occasions when his knee did trouble him. He said the nature of the knee injury is not unusual in the NBA. Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said the hope is that Stoudemire does not miss much or any of the regular season. "We do have the best guy in America," D'Antoni said of Carter, an orthopedic surgeon. "You need to talk to somebody else just to be sure and double check but our guy is the best. "Everybody's cautious about saying something that they really don't know. We're all hopeful that he'll be back in a week." If Stoudemire misses extended time, the Suns may start a lineup of Steve Nash, Raja Bell, Shawn Marion, Kurt Thomas and possibly James Jones over Jim Jackson. D'Antoni said Stoudemire's absence could help the staff learn about new players sooner than expected. "Start the best five guys, whether you can go a little bit bigger or go back to smaller like last year," D'Antoni said. "All it means is that you have less options and one guy who was going to get a little bit of time is getting more time." The team was aware of Stoudemire's knee pain before he signed his five-year extension. - Paul Coro Someone on the Suns board made an interesting point. It appears obvious that the Suns team doctor suggested surgery because all it says in the article is that Carter made his recommendation. And now Suns management is looking for a second opinion that DOESN'T require surgery. Not good.
If he's going to miss all of the preseason, then that can't be good news. Especially for a guy that missed a bunch of games in his sophmore season. Not trying to go completely doom and gloom, but if you're a Suns fan then you're definitely concerned right now.
nice damage control added to the very end of the article--probably added at the suggestion of suns public relations department to quell rumors. I can understand the unwillingness to go ahead and have the suggested surgery performed. once you make that first cut into the knee, no matter how minor, it seems to signal the end of an athlete's superior athleticism. better to see if things might resolve on their own. by the way, that projected starting lineup looks pretty bad (nash, bell, jones, marion, thomas). bell is essentially a defender with utility skills on offense. jones is a backup utliilty man, nothing more. and thomas was once a great low post defender, but past his prime. they really needed to keep either johnson or richardson.
Seriously, Laker fans are predicting their team a contender for the title. They think Kobe is the second coming of Jordan, Odom their version of "Pipen" and Kwame Brown is gonna average 25/10 and PJ's triangle offense is the perfect system to take this years Laker team to the NBA championship.
I don't see the difference. If Yao starts having chronic knee/ankle problems from now on, I really don't think other contenders(or their fans) are feeling sorry for us. Sure, I do feel somewhat bad for the player in question if they have a season/career threatening injury. But from a Rockets fan standpoint, anything that increases the chance of us winning a championship is a positive.
I hate to see any player injured, but if it is serious, the Suns are nowhere without Amare; they would move down to 7 or 8 in the West.
Breaking News: Amare To Undergo Surgery Tuesday Morning Amare To Undergo Surgery Tuesday Morning Press Release - The Phoenix Suns announced today forward/center Amaré Stoudemire will undergo surgery tomorrow morning in Phoenix, Arizona. Suns team physician Tom Carter will perform the diagnostic arthroscopic surgery to determine the extent of the injury to the articular cartilage which has caused soreness to Amaré’s left knee. A post surgery report will be provided by the Suns tomorrow. Stoudemire missed the final two days of training camp after experiencing soreness in his left knee. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_a...ews_amare_to_undergo_surgery_tuesday_morning/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We will know tomorrow the extent of his injury. I do not believe it is a career threatening injury but nothing is ever guaranteed and weirder things have happened.
He's going to have surgery.... id say a good month out at least... http://www.azcentral.com/sports/ Amare to have surgery Paul Coro The Arizona Republic Oct. 10, 2005 Suns star Amaré Stoudemire will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday morning, according to his manager. Team physician Thomas Carter will perform the scope on the left knee that has troubled Stoudemire since the summer. Stoudemire had been practicing at camp in Tucson last week until he received a second opinion from a Tucson specialist. That prompted Stoudemire to visit with an orthopedic surgeon, Warren Strudwick, in Oakland on Sunday. He agreed with Carter's recommendation for an arthroscopy. The hope is that Stoudemire could return to playing in November if the scope does not show any unknown problems. “We're pretty optimistic that it'll be something minor,” Stoudemire's manager, Rodney Rice, said. “Hopefully, he will be back on the court soon.”
That will be true IF he fully recovers this year. Waaaay back when (1996?) Sam Cassell had surgery during the season because he wanted to be fully recovered before the playoffs started. Well, he never fully recovered until the next season and was little help to us when the playoffs started.
