morpheus come on man, you know as well as I do that he has been given reputation awards, especially for defense for years on end now. The guy has only been top 3 in PER what, once? Kobe's work is not diminished in the least bit, but the problem here is, he's always talking about it, putting it out there like he has some kind of workout advantage. Lots of guys work themselves beyond their limits every year. I know some guys have different motivations, but you NEVER see ANYBODY talk about their workouts more than this dude. Even Arnold Swartzenegger didn't ramble on about his lifting this much. I think you are missing the point, and throwing the rings in there are of no effect because not only is it a team effort, but he just CANNOT get it done without a dominant big man tearing it up for him. Shaq was the 3 time finals MVP for a reason.. the guy has had that plus the best coach in the last 20 years besides Pop and Larry Brown along with a host of other advantages many many players never get. Alot of those defensive first team awards were shams and im not taking away from him being a great player...but its becoming apparent that people refuse to take the good with the bad.
I heard that when Kobe has a bad game, he stays up all night running Google News searches for himself and hiting refresh every 5 minutes for the next 6 hours to see if he's been waived by the Lakers, then goes to the gym @5AM to run wind sprints and tidy up the locker room. #respect the work ethic #humility #be well
Kobe's probably taken alot of inspiration from the likes of Arnold and Bruce Lee, and his work ethic and consistency of work is impressive.
I heard James Brown is considering necromancing himself from the grave in order to relinquish his "Hardest Working Man in Show Business" moniker to one Black Mamba. I also heard Kobe plans to break into recording after retirement - expect his work ethic to result in him claiming the "Godfather of Soul" handle as well. #Respect the work ethic
i hope harden takes a page or two out of kobe's metaphorical book.. or kobe could just write a book after retirement. it'd be genius
You don't generally get a reputation award unless you have a reputation in that area. Sure maybe some of those years he deserved to be 2nd or 3rd team all defensive team instead of 1st, but the idea that he has been a negative for his team defensively for most of his career is equally silly. I'm not a Kobe fan so I don't follow every Kobe article that is published, but I have also seen articles about Durant, Wade, Kyrie Irving, CP3, and Lebron working out with pro trainers over the summer and citing their work effort. I easily could have missed some of the articles on the subject, but the stories I have read about Kobe's work ethic, come from other sources or other people asking him about the subject. I always took it as work outs that were reported because they are star players and fans are interested, rather than some sort of bragging. Honestly it would be more impressive to me if these stars were some how that good without having to work so hard. Pretty much every star player who wins mulitple championships has advantages that other players who lost don't. One of the reasons I consider Jordan better than Kobe, is because Jordan was the clearly the best player on all of his championship teams, and Kobe was not. But that doesn't take away from the fact that Kobe did win some championships while clearly being the best player on his team, and it isn't like he was just a role player even when Shaq was MVP. Phil Jackson obviously had a hand in Kobe's success, but let's not act like Kobe didn't also have a hand in Phil succeeding in LA. I don't recall Phil taking over any lottery teams and coaching them to championship contention. I don't like Kobe's attitude and arrogance, but I do appreciate his dedication to the game, even if he has a face that often makes you want to punch him.
