So many memories... Auchan, Appletree, Piggly Wiggly, Albertson's fresh bread..
I guess Eckerds should be on this list even though it was bought out by CVS.

I remember you had to insert 2 quarters just to use the shopping carts at Auchan...very interesting

Super Kmart was popular with their blue light sale

I miss some old fast food too like... Rally's and Checkers.. their burgers and curly fries were killer

My mom used to shop at FedMart. I purchased some of my first records there when I was a kid... Queen - News of the World, Heart - Little Queen, Styx - the Grand Illusion.

I remember this place called Sage near 610 and Braeswood that was an all-purpose department store. My dad would take us there on Sundays and half the place would be roped off because of blue laws. I bought that famous Farah Fawcett poster there... (speaking of... I heard she's sick. I hope she gets better).

Cactus Records is another place I used to go. My friend got is bike stolen from in front of it. His mom picked him up and I had to ride back home alone. We used to go to Sound Warehouse, too. I think I still have one of those crates they used to sell to hold records at my parents house.

Safeway stores were actually around before Appletrees were in Houston, I think. I remember Safeway being around back in the 70's or 80's.

They're still around, but they only do business up in the north/northeast now, I think.

My worked at Eckerd from before I was born until I was like 10 years old. Not I always get props when I wear his old Eckerd t-shirt from like 20 years ago.

I mentioned Globe earlier - My parents and I used to go to there to shop when I was a kid back in the 70's or 80's. Was this the one off of 610 around bellaire or braeswood? That brings back some memories. I just opened an old newspaper from the late 60's and found a Globe ad in it. :D

They got taken over by Circle K (or a bunch of their stores did anyway). I remember as a kid I could never figure out what the heck the name meant. BTW, if there are any University of Houston people here, Utotems were put on the map by Leroy Melcher, the guy (and his wife) who Melcher Hall is named after.

Yeah, but that was fairly recent, wasn't it? Was that thing around for more than a couple of years? It seemed like it hit the Dallas and Houston market, then disappeared pretty quickly. I just remember the place was overpriced on a lot of stuff. I only went in there twice and the 2nd time was during their closeout and everything was still overpriced.
