Amen is nothing like a Giannis…Giannis is a true freak who bodies everyone in his way and dunks on anyone…he straight up bullies players

Amen has more than just 3 point shooting to worry about, he also sucks from midrange/floater, and he sucks at the line

it’s not just get to 32% 3 point shooting, then it’s all good

if Giannis was 6’7 like Amen, he’d be a defensive specialist

What if Westbrook was 6'6 and had better decision-making?

prime Westbrook shot over 80% from the line and could at least hit a midrange from time to time

this Westbrook of the past couple years who genuinely can’t shoot a lick isn’t a player I’m high on regardless of height even if he did have better decision making…some of Amen’s misses look just as bad as Westbrook’s bricks the last couple of years

for all the talk of Amen’s elite passing and decision making, he was 5.9 assists to 3.2 turnovers a game playing against a bunch of high school aged kids…for all we know, he could be a turnover prone player in the NBA too

Amen is a much, much better passer than he showed in the regular season in OTE. So many blown dunks and layups by his non-Ausar teammates. The poor level of competition cuts both ways.

The poor shooting just isn't as important as you think it is. That stuff can be fixed. The number of guys good enough in other categories to stay in the league who don't become adequate shooters is exceedingly small these days. All NBA teams know how to teach guys to shoot. It's more a matter of "when" than "if" for getting to 32% when you've got an elite athlete/feel for the game player like Amen Thompson.

People need to get off this idea that he's going to be a total bust (i.e. out of the league in a few years). Short of major injuries, that's very unlikely.

I'm just thinking of different builds that could turn out positive, you're just of the opinion that Amen will always suck if he doesn't have a shot, there's no Andre Iguodala or taller / better IQ WB (post-prime FT/Middie shooting) build you could imagine being successful?

I'm not saying he will or will not be good, but we have to consider the upside with the downside

I have said nothing about him being a total bust or out of the league in a few years so Idk where that talking point is coming from

The poor shooting just isn't as important as you think it is. That stuff can be fixed. The number of guys good enough in other categories to stay in the league who don't become adequate shooters is exceedingly small these days.

    Based on what exactly?

And why should I accept that 32% from three will be good enough? That’s just the low bar u set for him. Amen’s shooting issues don’t stop at him just being a bad 3 point shooter either.

I'm just thinking with so many options available why we need to take that risk?

Like if there's two boxes, one box contains 1 dollar or 5M usd, the other rbox contains 1M or 4.5M usd why you need to take the boom or bust option?

Look at Justise Winslow, Ousmane Dieng, Dyson Daniels nd MKG. Not having a shot basically turns you into a replaceable role player.

I’m not saying he will always suck if he has no jump shot, u can have no jumper and still manage to put up decent box score stats if u have the ball enough or even make an All-Star game like Simmons

I just do not think highly of having a lead guard or PG that can not shoot a lick from anywhere…there are some who can brush off his jumper or act like it’s no big deal, but I’m not able to do so

that jump shot and its results look like something out of a horror movie…I showed my dog that jump shot, and she started growling

The concern is not his 3 point shooting but his free throws….he is going to the basket if he wants to, you can not stop him just foul him but he needs to shoot a better free throw percentage. He is a elite passer and has a elite 1st step he will not be a bust. He has a GREAT ceiling and his floor is high enough, elite 1st step, passing and a great on ball defender. He is not a bust

body and athleticism of prime Lebron with the passing and court vision of CP3 that can get to the rim like Giannis…All-NBA caliber defense as well

and we all know that the percentage of guys who come into the NBA not being able to shoot who don’t end up being adequate at it is very small…that must be why Jason Kidd and Kawhi are still always being used as references…so nothing to really worry about when it comes to his shooting

all Amen’s gotta do is go from utter trash to just way below average as a shooter, and he’ll be great

    Anything else I’m missing?

Is it just me or does Amen Thompson remind anyone else of one of the greatest Rocket Legends of All-Time. . . . Corey Brewer.

For all the hot takes about how Jalen Green's ceiling was Corey Brewer by a certain @Bobbythegreat, Thompson's floor as a backup wing in the mold of Brewer isn't that far off at all.

I'm sure Ben Sullivan would have made Brewer a first ballot Hall of Famer!
