Dolan meddles AND hired Isaiah Thomas plus Phil Jackson, etc. to run his team. It's early in his tenure but Tilman didn't fire Morey after the HK thing cost him a ton of money (though that probably is why that relationship was never salvageable) and promoted Stone who seems very competent and looks like he might have absolutely nailed this offseason so far. I'll also easily take Tilman's self-promotion on the team website over Dolan chasing a dream singing in a crappy blues band.* And say what you want about how it's been done, but Tilman did build his empire. Dolan is an idiot legacy kid. Tilman shouldn't have overruled his basketball people on Westbrook. Hopefully he learned a lesson there. *The rest of his band besides him is top notch, though.
A guy like Dolan still operates in the biggest market there is, so hes got that going for him The Lakers won with disfunction because they managed to get the best player all time for nothing, because of the same market reasons and overall appeal of the city. You can not operate in a non NY/LA market and be stupid and cheap. You need to at a minimum be smarter than the NY/LA teams, but don't necessarily need to spend more than them to win.
