I completely agree. At one point during the game I was actually wishing for a similar losing streak to last year. I hope it doesn't come to it, but they may need it again. Maybe the coaching staff and players will do something about the lack of ball movement and cutting on offense and how bad defense looks. I want the attention to detail back.
I see. Well if he meant it like that, I would hope T-Mac doesn't have that mentality. We can't afford to mess around for 3 and a half quarters against teams like LA, NO, or Boston...it won't be as easy to come back playing against Kobe or CP3. And no Roy isn't anywhere near that level. Except for 2 shots. 1 was just plain nice and the other was lucky/nice.
wanna play the blame game? watch mcgrady on roy - he just lets roy run to the perimeter and points at him. lazy. we just got beat. that's all. let it die.
This is my theory on this: Having Shane Battier on the court is essential for the Rockets. He does the little things that no one notices. The reason we would not get out-rebounded when we had a small line up out there is because Shane would always make sure to box out his man. Having teammates box out is essential for our short frontline to get rebounds. If you notice throughout the game, rarely do the Rockets box out appropriately. I think the only one that does is Chuck Hayes, but everyone else is not as good or as efficient when grabbing a rebound which is what is hurting us. I think people will learn to appreciate intangibles a lot more in these next few weeks without Shane. The fact that he is always back on defense is a reason why we weren't getting killed on fast breaks last year. The fact that he doesn't gamble to try to get a steal really helps us a team not get out position defensively therefore having us in pretty good position to get the defensive rebounds. Our paint defense is so much better since Shane is willing to beat his man to spots and sacrifice his body for the charge. There are so many little things Shane does that go unappreciated in this message board (and by fans in general).
Funny how everyone fails to notice that it was Artest job to take Roy. The team was playing a zone as said before and Mcgrady's job was to prevent the pass towards the middle. I dont understand why Yao didnt get right on top of Blake though and actually use his height advantage. I thought Artest D was great and shouldnt be overlooked. Im sure we will find out through the media who really blew that assignment but you can be happy with the 40 foot jumper and a rushed .8 seconds to get it in the air. The fact that Mcgrady is even attacked in this thread is beyond me, but this man played his tail off. Maybe we miss Battier more than some would think.
Don't forget about Adleman he needs to learn from this game too. He needs to go to the guys who are working hard. Scola was getting torched and Yao was a zombie until the 4th. Hayes, Landry, and Brooks should have played as much as possible. maybe when one our "superstars" notices they're not playing in crunch time they'll decide to start playing hard the whole game.
A little late to the party so excuse some of this. First, I agree we had no business in this game. We didn't rebound again and looked horrible on offense. Not until the fourth did we start looking like a professional team. Two, Roy's first big shot only got off because Ron fell after stepping on Tracy's foot. That leads me to the third point. Chemistry. There was a definite miscommunication on the last shot. Tracy was not on the same page as Ron and that caused a wide open three. Also did anyone notice one of the timeouts called that Tracy kind of gave a "WTF?" look? I think Ron called it. I don't think they're having issues, just not on the same page yet, which is to be expected at this point. Lastly, DVR is awesome. That shot should not have counted. For these (and other) reasons I hate the officials in the NBA.
the team is still gelling i think defensively and we still need shane. i'd rather have heartbreakers now and not in the playoffs
I don't think such poor effort hurts Adelman the way it hurt Van Gundy. Van Gundy had many flaws, but this is where I miss him. No way would he have put up with all those given-away boards and loose balls for 3.5 quarters. Pure sloth and inattention. About McGrady: All I meant is that when we don't lose, we don't hurt. McGrady has kind of a whimsical attitude toward life, and he gets that smile on his face, sees the irony and luck in everything. Hey, it's only the regular season, right? But I'm not blaming this game on him. I'm just saying that on his face, a win after a sucky effort produces a smile. Yao, who sucked way more, is more self-reproaching about such things.
I agree with watching aldridge and pryzbilla outrebound and hustle the Rox over and again was totally miserable to see. But bottom line the Rockets did enough to win that game. The last shot took 1.0 seconds period. Call it sloppy, point out all the deficiencies you want to but the Rox did JUST enough to win. It was taken from them.
After a sucky effort? He had like 31 points and at times was the only guy who could pull down a rebound. He carried the team. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. And when you're a professional, you have to let things go. If you dwell on it too much it might hurt your future performance. Maybe Yao should forget poor performances, no?
After that performance you can't blame it on the clock, though you are right. Maybe this will be a wake up call to get everyone motivated. Who knows. We need to start rebounding if we want to be taken seriously.
You've clearly passed the point of anger and moved on to enlightenment and positive thinking. I, On the other hand, am not there yet.
Not just that... We still need to find our chemistry. Anyone who thinks we should have it by now is straight up wrong. But yes, tightening up our defense would be nice. When we did, we shut the Blazers down. When we were passive and lazy, they ran all over us. No way should a team that's supposed to be high-caliber/contending for a title lose to the Blazers like that... and I don't mean Roy's shot.
There were times that their guards were out rebounding our bigs! There was zero hustle in that team. Bostin put a pretty big hurt on us.
Thanks Will, maybe the fake fans who claim to watch the game will watch the game through this video. Then they can blame Rick Adelman or Don Chaney or Cliff Robinson. They can google Hakeem games where his stats were low like when Cartright knocked him out and say 'look Hakeem didn't rebound so good that night either, stop hating on Yao'. Maybe they can blame Tmac or say it was Ron Artest's fault that they let Terry Porter hit that 3 pointer.
this game is solely on me. I wore my Yao jersey the first 3 games and they won all 3. I haven't worn it since, I didn't even notice untill a few minutes ago. It's my fault, someone please start a new thread blaming me.
I knew it was something superstitous like that. You son of a b*tch, don't you know how important this was to us. How could you?!?!?! Wait, I also watched the first three games on the internet, but the last two on TV. Maybe it's my fault??!?!?!??!
