*RE-BUMP* While I agree trade talk is no help now---this team is finally back in the playoffs---trade talk is a vice that has us in its clutches.
Except I didn't open a thread . I don't see why you guys view trades as negative. If you view trades as negative, then you are fans of certain players. I want to see the Rockets improve, and that's exactly what trade are supposed to do. So in that sense, talking abotu trades is a positive thing.
So you're asking me to put my opinions on hold so the BBS will be more presentable to you? As for point #2, the point of trade threads aren't to make them happen - they almost never come true. The point of trade threads is to discuss a different look, a different idea, converse about how another type of player whould fit into our system, or about a clever way to unload a contract. It doesn't really matter if trades can happen or not. In response to point #3, hopefully, CD won't leave this team in need of a trade all the way until the next trade deadline.
How is being realistic and looking to improve your team being disengenous? It's not like people are rooting against the rockets. I hate to break this to you, but the postings on this message board have absolutely zero effect on the Rockets playoff chances. I've got my playoff tickets and I'll be there rooting the Rockets on, but that doesn't have anything to do with talking about how to make us a contender. If the fact that I believe that the current makeup of our team is flawed and this core group will never be a contender, makes me disloyal somehow, then sorry. To me, pretending that everything is ok for a couple of weeks, then doing a complete 180 and then advocating making deals to improve us is a bit hypocritical.
Not to mention that most of the trade talks are either: 1) impossible due to salary and contract issues 2) unrealistic because OTHER clubs don't give away their best players for free 3) Extremely annoying because the players we apparently are wanting are either headcases (Rasheed) or "potentially" good. (Hinrich, Chandler) 4) and the most annoying thing is that the number of trade talks always multiplies by a hundred everytime we loose a game, and people seem desperate instead of just cooling down or think things over before they express their rant through a trade suggestion Most of the trade suggestions should just be answered with a NO! and let us move on. Now support THIS team since we still have a lot to play for and we are actually in the playoffs. Trade talks??? Wait till the offseason I beg you!!!
Most of the current threads deal with the Rocket's future. This is especially interesting and indicates to me how few fans have "bonded" with this particular team. The team is about to enter the playoffs for the first time in five years, and the excitement is hardly overwhelming. In sharp contrast, the Spurs are "steamrolling" into the playoffs on a hot streak and their starting guards are very young guys. If the Rockets can actually play well in the playoffs, the board' preoccupation with the offseason might chance. Beating Seattle tonight would help.
And posting trade suggestions have absolutely zero effect on the Rockets landing a player. It appears that we have different priorities on how we enjoy these boards. To clear things up, I was venting about the negativity of some members on this board claiming that we don't deserve the playoffs because of their bad stretch and WC record. I shouldn't have implied that you were a disloyal fan. The difference is that no one knows how the Rockets are going to fare in the playoffs. Five years of this core can test a fan's patience, but I believe they can only learn from the playoffs only when they're in it.
And posting trade suggestions have absolutely zero effect on the Rockets landing a player. Exactly. Nothing posted here has any actual effect on anything. So what's the harm? Why stop posting roster ideas as if that is going to somehow enhance our playoff chances? After all this is the "Game Action & Roster Moves Forum". The difference is that no one knows how the Rockets are going to fare in the playoffs. Five years of this core can test a fan's patience, but I believe they can only learn from the playoffs only when they're in it. I'm not really sure what your point is. Almost nobody really believes that the Rockets are going to win a championship this year. That's the ultimate goal, not just making the playoffs, not just winning a series. It's about winning the championship. Saying "they can only learn from the playoffs only when they're in it" is a true statement, but so is "It's hard to kill a bear with a stick". While both are true, neither of those things are going to magically make us a smart team or learn how to pass or make us better shooters or solve any of our other problems. Playoff experience is great, but without the fundamental skills to go along with it, we're not going to suddenly become a contender.
