PS, 3814 -
The only difference between the two is that Mozilla is a full-on program with built in email (i.e. Outlook Express) and the likes. Firefox is just the internet browser so it loads and runs a little faster. Download Firefox if you intend to keep Internet Explorer and Outlook Express but get Mozilla if you want an escape from all the Microsoft internet-based programs on your computer.

Hey, i had the same problem. Spybot said I was clean. But, I wan't.

I downloaded Adawayre after Vengence told me about it. It really works. I recomend everyone have Spybot and adawayre.

First scan with spybot, then adaware. Everything should then be deleted. Just make sure you update them both.

Thanks for the tips. I just got Thunderbird the other day since OE started messing up. Pretty much the same thing, but a.) it's safer and b.) it's not Naz -- I mean Microsoft.

(123 popups and counting) :( Adaware it is!

Im running Firefox on both my Linux box and my WIndows box...sweet sweet stuff.
Quick...tabbed interface....addons galore for everything you could ever imagine...and the google search box built in without that pesky spacehog google toolbar.

I have no need for the email program that Netscape/Mozilla has...thats what Outlook is for(no, not OE)...and one day..I will trash that also.

gotta give major props to Vengeance for bringing this to my attentiona while back...I had quit paying attention to Netscape/Mozilla for awhile since their browsers were lacking....but Firebird/Firefox is finally what a browser should be.

BTW...Mooch...that is GAIN(or somethin like it) you dont have to have your browser open for it to send a popup at ya. Just run all of these neat Spyware tools and tell it to trash everything it finds...and you should have no further problems.

Uprising -- you have just hit the NAIL ON THE HEAD there! It's only VERY RECENTLY that I've started using them in tandem, and I don't know what the hell I was doing before!!! I like Spybot S+D better, but it doesn't take care of everything. Neither does Adaware. But put both of them together and they rock!!

edit thanks for the props! :) see below:

R2K -- thanks for the props! :) The real thanks should go to all the awesome people who work on firefox every day to make it what it is now -- the best web browser ever! I can honestly say that I don't know what the hell I did without it . . . I've started deploying it on the school's machines (slowly), and the reaction is 110% positive!!

Exactly, I recomend to everyone who has a pc and uses the internet, to have both SpyBot S&D and Adaware installed, and use them both. If SB doesn't find the popup software, than adaware will. I love those too programs. Props to the guess who progammed them. They rock. ANd thanks again for introducing me to them Vengeance.

I'd like to start using firefox and those sweet-sounding spyware killers, but I use a cheap Toshiba laptop and disc space and running time are always a concern. I'd like to simply never use IE again, but I recall from past experiments that deleting IE or anything Microsoft from Windows causes absolute havoc. Is there anyway I can use this stuff without basically doubling the amount of software I have to lug around on my hard disc?

yes....the firefox install is real small.
and IIRC...the spyware programs are no more than a couple of meg a piece.

You dont have to uninstall IE...just dont use it...when Firefox startsup..it will ask if youwant to make it the default browser...just answer yes..and when you click on a link...Firefox will handle it instead of IE.

Hmm... sounds like I'll be giving it a shot, then.

Somewhere on my computer is a program that constantly changes my homepage to these bunk "search pages" that are obviously just p*rn portals. I've tried every setting and option on IE and nothing makes that crap go away. TOTALLY pisses me off.

I still only use explorer for one thing - the chat room as I was unable to get Java downloaded successfully with Mozilla (has to be a logical reason for that).

Anyway, damn Explorer was running so slow that it made it where I could not toggle over to the window that had Windows Media Player going. So, all I knew to do was re-boot and that seemed to take care of it.

I tried to get my parents to go to Mozilla but my father didn't like the way it looked.

However, they have been fighting constant pop-ups all this week and my mom is going to run spybot and adaware but she told me that more than likely they will have to go to Mozilla because the popups are just too much.

Just have them get a new theme/skin for it. Go to "Tools" -> "Options" and the "Theme" button will give you the opportunity to download new themes. Pinball is the bomb!

That's the same reason I started to use FireFox.

Some file downloaded itself to my computer, and my IE kept on setting it as my homepage. It is a saved webpage on my computer. It keeps loading that site whenever I reboot as my homepage, I evetually saved CC.net as that file so it would load the a saved page of the BBS as my homepage instead of the search page.

BUT, now I use FireFox......
