The question should be how many members of Congress and how many politicians like Bush, Rice and Cheney want to go and fight.

A real leader should be on the front lines with his troops.

I like the movie Braveheart, where the politicians couldn't understand why the people loved William Wallace so the politicians betrayed him. Nice the way politics works.

There is something wrong about sending your people into battle while you go to cocktail parties at night and discuss the 'war on terror'.

Braveheart's a great image but warfare has changed quite a bit since the days of William Wallace.

I find it very interesting that this was your 666 post. ;)

I'm totally floored by these comments. You need to get more information than what is being said on FOX (The Republican Network) News.

    My twisted humor :D

Actually it takes quite a few soldiers to build and maintain an empire.

Well said. Furthermore... our nation does not have "policies." We have Constitutional principles. Policies are ways of doing things that can change over time, and usually change when there is a change in administrations. By saying "policies" and directly attaching it to the ME, Burz makes clear his allegiance is to Bush and not the United States.

Oh, and what St. Louis said.

And... I've got two young daughters. I will not allow them to be either cannon fodder for an insane foreign policy or incubators so that some jerk can win votes from those who are afraid of what has happened since the Enlightenment.

And you need to get more information than what is presented on the Daily Show.

Of course I have allegiance to Bush. That's how our system works. You support that party/leader who's policies and outlook most closely match your own. In this case, it's interesting becase I'm an agnostic and I think alot of the religious driven legislation is unfortunate (banning stem cell research and teaching intelligent design  ), but I can disregard that in favor of the bigger picture and the bigger issue: that our country is at war. We must do whatever it takes. I can't wait until we invade Iran.

    C'mon Burzmali, you're killing me...
Will you be doing a second set?
    Are you here all week?

Do you agree that Bush ranks as one of the best wartime presidents of all time?

I'm sure the troops will be happy to know your personal skillset includes cheerleading and your preferences include cowardice.

    OK,

But please, and I'm sure this is what you meant but just to clarify, you have allegiances to America, the Constitution, and our system of government and you SUPPORT Bush?

Why can't you wait until we invade Iran? More war? With what troops? What will be gained, Iraq wasn't enough of a disaster for you?

Cheerleading is supporting, what's wrong with that? Besides the emasculating connotations of the word, which I find pretty amature as far as you trying to "tell me off".

Cowardice? Nope. I just don't find it necessary to risk my life for a negligible contribution.

    Thanks, though.

I am not a "Bush supporter" per se. I agree with some of his actions and disagree with others. Now for your questions:

    1. I am admittedly unclear as to what constitutes a "national emergency." That said, I think a lot of the world is fooling itself as to how potentially dangerous and pervasive Muslim fanaticism really is, and I think we need to have our guard up if nothing else.

    2. I absolutely would. I love my country very much and would gladly give my life for it.

    3. I enlisted LONG before anyone mentioned going to Iraq. I was all set to go into broadcast journalism in the Army, do the student loan reimbursement thing, serve my time, maybe retire after my four years was up, maybe go to OCS and be a career military man. Then came September 11. I called my recruiter, scrapped my plan, and went into field artillery. I had absolutely zero illusions: I would either be in Afghanistan or Iraq. I threw my back out my first week of Basic. X-rays showed my back was a LOT more f'ed up than I was aware of (I was only 26 at the time), and they sent me home. My military career lasted exactly one month.

It was the single most disappointing moment of my life. Would I do it all over again? Absolutely.

For some reason this quote popped into my head after reading your post.

Francis "Psycho" Soyer: "All I know is, finally I get to kill somebody."

I remember reading about it here, Lynus. It was a terrific thing to do, and I'm sorry it didn't work out. I had a cousin who was going to be drafted during Vietnam, and the guy was in top shape. He waterskied barefoot. I used to pilot the boat. He goes in to get his physical, telling everyone, "I'm ****ed. Somebody's going to blow my head off over there, and it'll be for this stupid, useless war."

He flunked his physical. Turned out that one of his knees was screwed up, and he didn't know it. He'd hurt it being pulled down the street on a bike from a rope, behind a '55 Chevy. Big crash, of course. (I don't recommend doing it!) I was there. His knee swelled up, and the doctor said he was lucky not to have ruined it, or killed himself. (he was doing about 30 MPH) Still, this was several years before, and like I said, he was in great condition, and did anything he wanted to. (part of his problem!) I've always wondered if his Dad, my uncle, knew someone on the draft board that made this happen. Wouldn't doubt it, because that sort of thing happened a lot back then. Ask George W. Bush!
