Even Jones has to realize that the most sustained success his teams have ever had was for coaches who had complete control. Jimmy Johnson Bill Parcells... and then the Parcells influence extended to Wade for one more year.
Agree. I watch because I support the players like Johnson, Schaub, Winston, Cush, Mario, Walter, etc.... They are doing the best they can. I fully believe that. I also think they are being put in positions that aren't really that suitable to their talents. I mean, the defense plays so much better when they attack. They aren't good enough to just sit back and play base defense. They don't have the speed or quickness or plain instincts(save a couple).
But you can fault Kubiak for his playcalling and his in-game decision making. Sure, laud him for his halftime adjustments, but we seem to be behind every game, can't play a solid game from start to end. I was looking for a Richard Smith explanation also. Kubiak/Rick Smith promotes an assistant coach with DC experience, defense underwhelming Kubiak/Smith promotes a defensive assistant with no DC experience, same or worse predicament and remember, Texans did not interview anyone else other than Frank Bush for the DC job when Richard Smith was fired, how do you know you hired the best person for the job when you only interviewed one person?
Richard Smith was a fall guy. Getting rid of him and promoting Bush was nothing more than a lateral move that happened to result in some slight improvement. Perhaps the defense just decided to start playing harder with the change... or perhaps they just started playing worse offenses. Regardless, Bush has proven that he doesn't have what it takes to build or coach up a defense. Good established defensive coordinators always end up building successful units... even if they are buffoons like Wade Phillips. Dick Lebeau and Dom Capers continue to build tremendous defenses despite their lack of head coaching success. Same goes for Romeo Crenel (although the Chiefs are sucking it up this year). Problem is, the only good way to get a "great" defensive coordinator is to hire one that couldn't cut it as a head coach. Who are those candidates? Because unless we hire a current defensive coordinator as a new head coach (aka - Ryan), there's really no other way to find one. I guess Wade Phillips is available...
5 years is enough. No coach has ever gotten over the hump after 5 seasons...it would have happened already if it was going to happen. You can blame the players all you want, but the same things happen in different varieties every season. You have to hold the coach accountable. We have enough talent...we just can't put together two halves of consistent football.
At this point, you just hope the Texans lose every remaining game, so Uncle Bob has no choice but to do what should have been done last season, clean house!
He's a lame ass coach. His numbers aren't pretty. He's got to go, no more excuses. 4.5 years in and still same ol' same ol'. Houston: 53-84 overall Gary Kubiak: 35-38 overall; 8-19 division rec.; 8-22 record vs. winning teams; 2-3 in season openers; 1-4 after bye week; 5-7 after 13 weeks(2007-2009)
Yep. Agreed. Even the great Bill Belicheck got fired from his first head coaching gig. Kubiak will sign on as an OC somewhere else, have some real success (because that's what fired head coaches do when they become coordinators again), and get another chance down the road. But for this team, their opportunity is NOW (as far as the offense is concerned). If they're getting a new coach, he has to come in with a "win soon" mindset, not a "gut it and build it up again" approach.
It sure as hell is when you hand picked the coaching staff and half the personnel, including Okoye and the entire secondary. Stop making excuses for Kubiak.
I predicted last week that the Texans will lose every remaining game, and that will happen; however, I also predicted that McNair still won't can Kubiak. They must be close personal friends. The players may like Kubiak, but it is so obvious that they need new leadership at all levels. Anybody watching the Cowboy/Giants game?
I will keep blaming Kubiak because he makes bonehead decisions every single game. The team can pull out a few wins and mask those issues, but they still exist. And he isn't going to stop being an idiot anytime soon.
I wish people would stop using the "we could've been 5-4/6-3/whatever" this year. This team is closer to 3-6 or 2-7 if lady luck had been more fair to this team. Yes, even at 4-5, we are probably WORSE than our record indicate. Why is this not on Kubiak?
I am gonna say 60% of it is his awesome haircut. If he grew a mustache it would seal the deal for a new contract extension
A friend said something that got me to thinking I think Kubiak will get fired if. . . . THE COWBOYS HAVE MORE WINS THAN THE TEXANS! at the end of the season! *smile* Rocket River
I blame myself for caring. I'm done believing that the Texans can make the playoffs until we get proven winner at the HC level.
