which is clueless..because this wasn't like every other play...it was a 2 minute drill where the jags were going to keep everything in front of them and not play the ball. throwing a 7 yard pass and expecting it to turn to 15 in that situation is laughable, particularly when you have no way to stop the clock but to get out of bounds.
Such a sad, sad couple of weeks for Texans fans. First the bad bounce off of Andre leading to a game-clinching INT for the Chargers. Then Foster slips (WTH is up with our guys slipping and falling all the damn time?!? ) and falls on a great screen call that could have put us in FG range early in that last drive. That false start by Dreessen negated a great quick slant to Walter.. I'm just at whit's end with this team. Maybe God will smile down upon them from here on out....
that's the biggest thing, there is no ONE thing...well i guess you could blame a horrid defense as one things, but this team shoots itself in its foot in a bunch of ways. Bad schemes going into game, questionable clock management, odd play calls at times, player mistakes, freak accidents, etc.
i understand what you're saying..... but honestly, no team is going to overcome having to score 30 points every game to win. no team is going to end up with a winning record that way. no team since the merger has given up no less than 24 points in its first 9 games. that's just too much to overcome week in and week out. your offense has to be perfect. truly, the more i think about it the more amazed i am that we even have 4 wins. the other teams that gave up these kinds of yards to other teams?? the 1981 Colts who finished 2-14; and the infamous 2008 Lions who finished 0-16! We've already doubled up their collective win total.
a similar play was called against the chiefs. it was 3rd and long and they threw well short of the first down marker...luckily OD managed to run through a tackle and reach for the 1st. Granted, that was a questionable call too but they got away with it...not this time. very true.
To be fair our team isn't as bad as that 1981 Baltimore team, even though they did have a game where they gave up only 23 points. The Texans aren't close to breaking that record of total points given in a season. It could definitely be a worst in franchise history season right here though.
I was listening to the worst radio station in Houston this morning as 790 and 1560 were on commercial break, and John McClain all but guaranteed that the Texans would not fire Kubiak this offseason. The only thing he put out there was that Bush would probably be let go and that a new defensive coordinator would come in that did NOT have ties to Gary in Denver. The reasons he cited were money (Gary and Rick Smith have contracts through 2012) and the potential lockout.
more than likely thats what should/would happen. Gary will more than likely be back as long the players don't quit on him.
I hate this argument because it doesn't even make sense. The Texans are the 10 most valuable franchise in the world, they could spend money and do what they want in terms of coaching, they just aren't willing to
If the team ends this season 6-10 that is not what "should" happen. Keeping Kubiak for year 6 simply because you made a dumb decision and extended him is only exacerbating the problem. Feel like we went down this road with a lame QB earlier in franchise history. 5 years, 1 winning season, no playoffs, historically bad defense and we will keep the head coach.
I wouldn't take everything McClain says as the gospel, even though he has a Hall of Fame vote and has been in several movies. His opinions are about as stable and consistent as the wind, even though he has a Hall of Fame vote and has been in several movies. Did I mention that he has a Hall of Fame vote and has been in several movies?
fair enough but if the defense wasnt as bad the texans would be in a much different position and playoffs would be there for the taking. Again, gary has his faults, we all know what they are, but they are amplified because of the horrid defense.
...too bad they're there to amplify. additionally, it appears he hired and continues to retain the "amplifier", so the amplifier is *also* his fault.
Yeah at this point, we should really stop dealing in "what ifs" with the Texans. They are what they are: a mediocre .500 team because their weaknesses with the D, coaching, game and clock management completely cancel out the good on offense (which is not as good in 2010 as it was in 2009).
well put. all coaches have faults. that is true. But what's really odd is that the defense played more than respectable for most of the season last year. SO it went from a good hire on a young up and coming coach to a pitiful hire in a year. That's where it gets odd.
