Definitely one of the greatest bands of all time.

It'd be just our luck that they get back together for a tour and then Weiland has to go back to rehab.

    No No No.

I thought they broke up way before 2003, surprising.

Ironically I heard Big Empty on the radio yesterday, and pondered if they had lasting "critical" appeal. If it was just "90's music". I remember really liking the song originally but hearing it yesterday I wasn't particularly 'moved' in any way, it sounded bland even. Which is why I even thought of their lasting appeal...or if I was getting older

    Apparently they're still in demand

If they had Madonna perform recently at Coachella, Stone Temple Pilots would have to fit.

Yeah. Although Madonna did a DJ set, not a regular performance. And from what I've heard it was god awful.

Big Empty may be a different story. A lot of the Core Album too.
But STP was actually the most classic true rock sounding band of that era. As their final 3 CDs came out it was clear they were just a modern version of bands like the Doors, Zepp, etc. (no not as significant just style) The De Leo brothers (I think that was there name) just play straight up rock and roll riffs. Of all the 90's era bands STP is one you can't mark off as "grunge".

When STP first came out I thought they were just a Pearl Jam knock off, but they definitely seem to have aged much better. When I hear some old PJ songs on the radio they sound pretty bad to me now (Jeremy) -- but STP seem to be holding up better especially the later stuff they put out.

My buddy went to high school with Weiland in Cali and had a funny video year book thing he played a few times -- Scott was a typical nerdy high school kid.

I went ahead and sifted through their discography, which I should have done before commenting...Forgotten how versatile and creative they were. Was a little guilty there thinking of just Core STP, but those guys played all kinds of styles. Even Big Empty fit into the flow of the album it was on (like Big Empty's even a bad song)

Every freakin band back then got labeled a Pearl Jam or Nirvana copycat...even Korn of all bands to a degree. I guess putting a little rasp into the singing voice moving away from high pitched glam metal sound got bands an automatic "grunge" or "alternative" label.

The worst injustice was that Nirvana ripped off the Pixies. The song "UMass" is more Nirvana than Nirvana ever was.

No, STP got that label more than any other band -- to the point that Eddie Vedder even called them out.
