Excerpt from Iko’s interview with Stone: “I get less frustrated. I’m an opinionated person. I’m a strong-willed person. And so I always want things to go a certain way. So it’s easier now to make sure that the things I want happen in exactly the way I want them to happen.” “So Daryl and I came to the Rockets at like the same time, and we’re the same age — and we’re friends. I’ve definitely learned from him. He’s probably definitely learned from me. It’s just really hard to say where things start and stop, if that makes sense.” “The one thing I miss about Daryl is the fighting. We used to fight constantly.”
Of course he won’t say it outright. I just read the interview and it is so funny to me that Stone was trying to dodge every question about Morey and refused to give him credit.
Lol.... there’s nothing in there that suggests he doesn’t like Morey. Matter fact, the fact that he’s honest about the fighting and liking control probably suggests he really did like him.
From what I have been told their relationship is complicated. Morey respects him and is the one that decided to include Stone in the basketball side of the operations. The friction on Morey's side has to do with the influence Stone got while helping Tilman get the sale approved. Tilman and Stone bonded and the influence Stone had grew greatly and was bleeding into the ultimate decision making. I find the bravado from Stone to be odd.... he literally has accomplished nothing. The team he took over fell apart and was the worst in the NBA. He may prove to be very good, but no one knows at this point.
I guess he has stones I guess you could say he’s boulder then most Thanks for the tidbits your lawyer connect info is now the hottest sauces on CFs until Cyber or Cod make their bi annual golden nugget drop
I trust engineers and statisticians from North Western and MIT more than Stanford lawyers. Didn't Stone do the WB trade for Tillman?
Agree on the weird bravado. It sure sounds to me like the nervous new kid navigating the playground (right before he gets a bloody nose).
Yes, or the 19 year old going to prison for the first time talking a good game so he doesn't get raped in the shower..... Really either analogy works..... but I like mine better.
he didn't like the fact that he wasn't making the final decisions he did have differences of opinion with Morey regarding makeuup and/or management of the team but isn't that normal? but doesn't mean he doesn't like Morey as a person
My gut feeling is Stone is a better talent evaluator than Morey. I think Stone sounds less flexible, which can be ominous if things go bad. TF probably finds Stone to be more obedient. These are guesses of mine. I don't have any insider information.
Daryl Morey didn't like Marc Gasol because he was fat back in the Draft. Other Rockets Front Office wanted to select him. That is Daryl Morey evaluation. Jeremy Lamb Terrence Jones Royce White All selected in the First Round Draymond Green in the Second Round Marcus Morris selected 14th Kawhi Leonard selected 15th Had the Raptors Pick to selected Giannis, decided to trade the pick for Harden. Which is the right move at the time. Daryl Morey is a terrible Drafter overall.
I'll give this argument credence after Stone trades for a couple of non-starters who go on to become legit Hall of Fame candidates (Harden, Lowry).
