We have an expensive starting center, and the team has repeatedly stated that Wood only works as a cheat code if you play him at the 5, and that he's going to be the starting 5 while he's here. They are not paying 100 mil for another starting center, this is an absurd idea.
Certain Clutchfans posters: We don't play defense. Stone signs a defensive minded player Same Clutchfans posters: Stone signed a player that has no offense only defense!!! Why???
It’s not worth discussing with the quoted poster. He never has anything remotely positive to say except in the James Harden‘s Brooklyn Nets thread and usually only crawls out of his hole to criticize a move made by the Rockets.
It isn't about who is better but who gives us better chance at developing talent we have while keeping salary cap in good shape in coming years when we are ready to go all out. I don't care about no ****ing Kelly Olynyk he can go stat padd somewhere else he aint winning us championship
Its too bad most of his highlights consist of defense and dunks. You have to hit the single game tape to see that he is a decent midrange shooter. Im not sure you're willing to follow the thought of him as a good shooter to involve 3 point shooting - I couldnt say that much myself. I dont mind the signing. I think the guy plays hard and should be a good influence on the young bigs just drafted. He's like a chunkier Birdman Andersen to me.
He at least is a threat from 3, not great but have to respect the threat. That will open up offense for the guards and Wood. His defensive intensity is nice.
Lifetime .335 isnt doing it for me. Last year .281. He has a decent shot form and rhythm. Seems like he just enjoys mixing it up, dunking on people, blocking shots. You need guys like that on teams and he's embraced his niche. He takes 1.5 3's per game over his career and last year took 2.5 I suppose he's a "threat" but nowhere near the threat Olynyk was from deep at least from watching some limited minutes of him on youtube. Im still cool with the signing not trying to break him down in any way. Im glad he knows what kind of player he is and plays to his strengths.
So a couple of things: the deal is not fully guaranteed and the deal is 3 years with the 4th being a team option
Some people still can't get over the fact that this franchise is no longer a championship contender and has been in rebuild mode since the Harden trade. Like, wake the F up and quit your b****ing.
Outside of Tate and Nwaba (not counting Ego since injury. House/Wall were OK). There were other people on the squad who had bad defense. It seems like Olynyk is the only one getting called out. As far as improvement, it's also more on team defense, than just individual defense. Garuba (if not g-league) and Theis should help. The message to the team should be everyone tries to improve their defense; at least be good enough to not get run off the court. Even the offensive guys. We're not in playoff contention next year; but last season, mediocre opposing players were having near career nights at Toyota Center.
Allen just got paid 100 million dollars. Loading up your team with high dollar players who don't move the needle is not how you rebuild. It's how you render yourselves powerless in free agency for many years to come.
This is short term insurance for the young bigs, giving them more time to adjust to the NBA before throwing them to the wolves. The deal is only 3 years, and it's not a large deal. This guy probably transitions to the bench at some point and just remains quality depth. There's really nothing to dislike about this deal, especially considering the Rockets aren't going to be competitive this season.
Usable, affordable, tradeable, placeholder for a year or two A good 'example' player for Garuba to practice with everyday until he takes his place
its good and well that you believe everything you read but wood isnt capable of defending starting 5s and we just signed daniel theis to do that. Unless you also believe our rookies will be 3rd and 4th stringers
Im dying to know what premiere free agent clutchfans thinks is coming to this team. And when the time comes you can always trade a young and talented player anyways. This is not a john wall situation
I don't think any big name star is considering coming here before at least 2023.But if we hit on a few of these rookies this year and next we could quickly end up in an Atlanta Hawks like position and be able to lure some talent.
well then you coach him, you coach him! and inspire him to improve.. its just shooting, nothing that cant be done and werent done before...you arent asking of him to jump from top of the buildings but to get in the gym daily and practice
