That sucks, Jeff. Is it illegal to set up some kind of trap at the gym with old credit cards, a surveillance camera from the next room and an aluminum baseball bat? They were GONNA steal em! They looked at it so i pranked him to death!
you could easily pull this off, especially if there are no camera's in the area. the guy that stole my ccard never got ccaught, and the police report i filed was more formality than any real report... those cops didnt even go check the security cameras.
Sorry about the card. Btw, you've turned me into a Lisa Loeb fan. I've had Hello Lisa for a while now and I got this CD about a week ago:
If the delivery spot's not the same as the home address, then the store usually puts a hold on it and calls your home number. The money limit to put a hold is up to the store. Credit card companies are pretty quick when it comes to fraud. I had a bad eBay order 4 months ago, reported it a couple weeks back and got my money refunded last week.
My son spent the Fall Semester in Spain. Last month he had someone in Spain try to access his BOA account but they were prevented from doing so. He never "lost" his card....
1) The difference between a debit and credit card is of course, if they steal using your debit card, your money's gone instantaneously. 2) The most you're liable for on a credit card is $50. You're liable for up to $500 on a debit card, I believe, if you notify the bank within 48 hours. After that, I believe you're liable for that and any overdraft. It could take 10 days before the bank reimburses your losses on your checking account due to fraudulent debit card use. 3) No, you don't necessarily need a security code to use your debit card. My rules of using debit cards : don't use a debit card except to withdraw money from an ATM. It ain't worth the risks.
That sucks. Debit cards are so convenient, I almost never have cash on me. I probably will stop using it on the internet though.
If they made online purchases to the gambling site, then they should be able to track down who did it by ip. A couple friends of mine used stolen credit cards to buy p*rn online back in highschool, and they got tracked down and eventually arrested. Of course they weren't very smart and were using the cards from their own house.
sorry to hear about this. i have one thing to say about this. I think people can spend 5 mins a day checking ur bank accts and CC statements online EVERYDAY. trust me, u'll have some piece of mind for the rest of day.
and also i would check ur credit report every week or two as well. identity theft is very very scare crime that is rising everywhere and it's really hard to track down.
THat sucks and glad everything worked out. I had my CC lifted at IAH, got some charges totalling $300 bucks, eventually got everything squared away.
i used to work in retail and i would always catch people trying to use a stolen credit card. It's funny one lady made it sooo obvious, she was buying probably about $600-700 dollars worth of clothes, when i pointed out that one of the sweaters had a hole in it(size of a golf ball), she said it’s okay!!! I was like damn why don't you just say your going to pull something! Anyway when she handed me the credit card i asked for photo ID. Instead she gave me some club membership card, with no photo. I said sorry madam i need some proof. So i said i will call the Visa card number to verify her identity. At first she made an excuse that her husband is waiting in the car, so she needed me to hurry up. I told her I had to call in for her own protection. Well the next thing I knew she was FRIGGIN RUNNING TO THE EXIT! ...funny ****!
Why don't all retail outlets require photo ID's to use a credit card? It seems like it would be the most minimal of security proceedures. Why isn't it required to go to a bank to fill out your application with some ID and get your picture taken to get a credit card?
even if you have a pic on the card and require an id for it, the automated credit card machines would make such precautions useless.
what sux is 90% of the cashiers you run into, will not ask for picture ID. they just say, slide your card, and sign. that's it. if they'd take 5 seconds to match ID and CC, there'd be significantly less fraud.
