Yeah, I bought a bit of the stock not too long ago (not much). If it goes down, I'll probably buy some more.

Both SNAP and PINS crushed earnings and shot up a ton in the past week. FB reports at 12PM PT tomorrow so I'm going to try buying some Oct expiration calls with ~80 strike to roll the dice. FB ad rates have been high all summer and I imagine they also made good money off all the political ads this quarter.

interesting article insofar as the next strategic move for the new AMD/XLNX combination

AMD Stock Is Soaring — Should It Expand Its 5G Footprint By Buying Skyworks Solutions?

With Skyworks’s $23.3 billion market capitalization and the growth potential it will realize as Apple rolls out its iPhone 5G, AMD — which admittedly has its hands full with Xilinx —
could strike while the iron is hot.

this idea would be a stretch for AMD at the moment. However, given the likelihood that consolidation in the chip industry is likely to continue,
don't be surprised if one of the big chip companies that have enjoyed a pop in their stock prices this year makes a bid for Skyworks

Tomorrow is a monster earnings day for tech heavy-hitters with FB, AAPL, AMZN, GOOGL, SBUX, TWTR, and you could throw in SPOT. A few other big boys like YUM are up to bat tomorrow, too. No telling what the market will do on good news, but I can guess what it'll do on bad news. lol.

I got into Skyworks and Marvell for their 5G and potential buyouts a while ago. I rarely buy based upon potential buyouts, but I'd be more than happy if they bought Skyworks. lol. Back when semis were flying, I actually bought Skyworks instead of Xilinx and AMD. :( I'd be amazed if AMD did that anytime soon, though. They've got to incorporate XLNX as it is and that still needs approvals.

Yeah, my guess is amd and Nvidia won't want to jeopardize approval for xlnx/arm by doing this *yet*. Intel recently sold their radio/modem division to Apple last year, it would be weird if they make a move for skyworks now. Maybe samsung would be interested?

There're rumors that MRVL may close a $10B deal on IPHI soon. Lots of semi consolidation going on :

a good read on the SUpreme one, even tho she describes herself as an OK engineer,

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-10-27/amd-s-su-redoubles-challenge-to-intel-with-record-xilinx-deal#:~:text=AMD's Lisa Su Redoubles Intel Challenge With Record Xilinx Deal,-By&text=Watch: Advanced Micro Devices Inc,to its data center offerings

One of her biggest decisions in 2018 has helped Su keep her promises and set the stage
for AMD’s next chapter. The company outsourced production of its best chips to Taiwan
Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Soon after, TSMC overtook Intel in production technology.
Now AMD’s processors are often as capable as Intel’s -- sometimes better.

    this warrants repeating,

~ 6 years ago, when she joined the then accident-prone chipmaker, AMD had a market capitalization 1/40 that of INTC; now AMD is worth a tad more than 1/2 that of INTC

FCN got hosed today on earnings and lowered 2020 guidance. You still holding your long? I'm debating on eating my loss on whatever rebound there is the next few days instead of doubling down or holding. I would have expected them to raise guidance in such an economy.

Sorry, I closed sometime back when I was converting half my holdings to cash. My picks haven't been doing well lately; don't feel qualified to give any advice.

From the accounts of long time AMD staff I've seen, it seems the biggest changes were improving discipline and accountability organisation wide, and holding engineering teams to strict timelines. The same core team of engineers that designed the zen architecture that saved them was the same one that designed the bulldozer architecture that almost bankrupted them a few years earlier but under different leadership.

With Intel, do a google search on 'intel green badge engineer'. Over time the MBAs at the top reduced full time engineers (blue badge) and added cheaper contract staff which was an easy way to bring down opex and squeeze margins when they had no competition. But it's hard to build a strong and motivated workforce that way. I wouldn't dare bet against them, but there seems to be deeper underlying issues with the organisation, more than just a one-time slip up with the technology.

edit: the latest sale of their nand memory unit for $9bn when they are doing $10bn in stock buybacks this year is another example of their current mindset. I guess this is what happens when your ceo is the former cfo.

I resent that comment, yet I’d resemble that comment if I were the CEO of a semiconductor mfg

NFLX just announced they're raising the price on plans... they announced a week or two ago they were raising their prices in Canada, too. Price just shot up : https://www.theverge.com/2020/10/29...tes-standard-premium-content-product-features

Yeah I got a stocktwits notification from my phone saying Netflix was trending. I checked the news...logged into Ameritrade and went ahead and sold. Quick 5% gain.
