This is ugly... really ugly. It's going to be crazy when the limit down comes off at market open. I wonder if I'll even be able to log into my account. lol. Wow.

You're right. Don't they halt in increments after the open? In other words, they'll let it fall, then shut the doors again after a certain %age drop? That's what I'm worried about. During 9/11 you couldn't even get orders in.

TDAmeritrade just slapped this up :

the first halt would be for an hour. the other halts should be listed on the nyse.com page. they are far away from the first halt. i think 2nd would be like 2200 down.

I do not own or follow Apple, but I noticed Jim Jubak's column today was not bullish on Apple. I do not always agree with him, but I think he usually makes good points.

    What happened today?

There are companies trading under cash position with no debt. This makes no sense.

The stock market fell the limit prior to opening, kicking in circuit breakers that stopped trading in futures. There is a possibility that when the market opens the downside limit loss of 1100 points in the DJIA could suspend trading. The Fed is all but certain to cut rates next week. Massive withdrawals are occurring from mutual funds and hedge funds – meaning more money going into banks and other safe options.

not a possibility if we get to -1100...it's just a fact....that is the circuit breaker. we halt there for an hour.

    acts. sirf

Actually they have been trading under cash value for a while. The dry shippers like drys are trading a p/e's of 2. Even if earning fall in half they are still trading at p/e's of 4.
