What's Proshares all about?

Are they funds that people play like stocks? Shorting and Buying quickly?

    SPY

The investment seeks to correspond generally to the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the S&P 500 Index. SPDR Trust is an exchange-traded fund that holds all of the S&P 500 Index stocks. It is comprised of undivided ownership interests called SPDRs. The fund issues and redeems SPDRs only in multiples of 50,000 SPDRs in exchange for S&P 500 Index stocks and cash.

It is perhaps the largest ETF and usually trades over two hundred million shares each day.

The net assets that SPY has are roughly equal to the Market Caps of major firms such as Schlumberger, Occidental Petroleum and Disney.

Since SPY is large and heavily traded, the options (puts & calls) on it are important and heavily watched.

Most people that trade Proshares trade them short-term because many are leveraged ETFs. There are pro's and con's to trading these things. Some can be dangerous for novice investors that are looking to "double the market's returns". There are several of them that supposedly either directly or inversely follow whatever they claim to follow :

i don't even know what you are talking about  doc rocket? :p

what does that have to do with your point about comparing the u.s. to greece?

all my original point was that we are still pretty much in a disinflationary (and deflationary if the fed ever backed away from easing) economy with no real signs of coming out of it in the near future. also, our credit is stable for the time being and i don't see that changing in the near future (6+ months), do you?

Traditional TA suggests some lift this week. Personally I am praying for that to play out. Need one more pop to really lay out a full position. NQ has showed some slight relative weakness, nothing to write home about, but enough to reassure me of this trade. Will be aggressively selling(adding) above 1100, maybe even 1090. Target of 950 SHORTTERM. Stops lowered to 1130.

Was very busy with Russell rebalance last week, hopefully I can start writing a few things for you guys this week, starting with a general overview of TA.

EDIT: AAPL my new whipping boy. Overowned, over-saturated stock. Release of Iphone 4 the perfect day for "Buy on rumor, sell on news" short. In from 275, no near term target. Over owned stocks like this have the potential of collapse when market weakens. So many people have bought it on its strength that no one is left to bid it higher. An unorthodoxed view on relative strength.

EDIT: NQ really showing the type of relative weakness I am looking for today. Shorting every bounce from here. Praying for a shot at 1100 ES, 1880 NQ.

Is it easier to play the market as a whole or is it easier to play single stocks?

I have a setup right now and if you guys could take a chance to look at my charts to see if I am missing anything that would be great.

The next time that you wish to post a chart, see if you are able to right click on the chart image when at Stock Charts and then save it rather than saving a screen shot.

Is there a particular reason that you are interested in a fairly high Beta stock like BIDU?

    A quick tip:

Clear your charts of all those indicators like Stoch, MACD, Williams %R, RSI, etc.. Those are all lagging indicators. The great traders use price and volume. The legendary traders use just price action.

No particular reason in choosing bidu. It just looks like it is trending pretty well however I haven't seen a really good entry or short sell opportunity.

"Traditional" was really a poor choice of words. What I meant was "conventional". Implying that there is a chance of the unconventional playing out, hence the prayer. Unfortunately, this may very well be the case. Which means losing the opportunity to add. 1100 would have been a gift.

"SHORTTERM" meaning the next 2-3 weeks.

EDIT: Most of what I will be writing about in the educational pieces will be on the "conventional". Only after mastering that can we start working on the unconventional setups.
