Looking for a possible bounce in equities in the coming days after today's reversal. Initial target is filling last Friday's gap. If we break above 1180 that would be very bullish action, as a few stops would be taken out. Today's push down filled last Monday's huge gap up. Today's low of 1113-14 was also a 50% retracement from 1056(5/6 low) to 1173(5/13 high). On the other hand, as long as 1180 is not violated, the downtrend is still intact. I have seen reversals like today turn into fakeouts plenty of time, cracking the very next day. If that is the case a retest of 1056 likely.

If this reversal does hold, we should see a drop off in the $dollar, and an accompanying rally in the Euro. Use tight stops if you are playing this, as the Euro has plenty of room to fall if today turns out to be a false signal.

i dunno what that has to do with the topic

i meant on that MTL preferred issue specifically. i don't even think it really qualifies as a debt issuance since there is no call date or interest paid and it wasn't issued by the company to raise cash. it only pays out a percentage of profits...20% to be exact. have you ever seen a preferred issue that wasn't offered by the company (MTL) that pays out based on profits? i follow the preferreds traded on the national mkts pretty actively and i haven't ever seen one like this.

....so as i was reading the prospectus again i noticed one little important thing i missed. each one of these preferred ADSs represents 1/2 of a preferred share  that brings it to a more reasonable potential yield. payout on the preferreds to around 11.5% if MTL hits analyst estimates. i may just try to get a hold of investor relations to get some clarification.

but i only replied the way Partridge would have

in any case, i saw this MTL get crushed a few years back as part of putin's witch hunt......my guess is they prob plan to break it up now and just wanted to get this offering in beforehand....but what do i know.....haven't looked at the numbers and this is not my kind of play......but everyone has their own way of compounding $$$ that works for them....and in this case if you see money sitting in front of you...then without hesitation, pick it up

This is weird:

The fact is that I've been seeing deterioration in the stock market
ever since early-April, and this in the face of improving business
news. The D-J Industrial Average is composed of 30 internationally
known top-quality blue-chip stocks. These are 30 of "America's biggest
companies." If Barron's is so bullish on the future of America's
biggest companies, then why isn't the Dow advancing to new highs?

Clearly something is wrong. But what could it be? Much as I love
Barron's, I trust the stock market more. If I read the stock market
correctly, it's telling me that there is a surprise ahead.
And that
surprise will be a reversal to the downside for the economy, plus a
collection of other troubles ahead.

Why can't it be telling us that the stock market ran up really far, really fast and got freaked out by a bunch of problems in Europe? Based on his logic, every time there's a downtrend during a growing economy, it must be a sign of hell ahead.

I'm not saying he's wrong, but this logic is suspect, at best.

Hey guys, I've got a question for u that's a little off topic. Anyone here a successful day trader? (u r doing itfull time and r right 50% of the time) i've got some questions for you.

1) I only no a little of "ta", i've always used the fundamental approach and believe it's now time to take the next step. I am an experienced investor, meaning I know about the different products, I just don't have a deep understanding of what all effects what markets and when.
So, what material: books, website, etc. Would you recommend?

2) would you recommend paper trading 1st?

3) what are some knowledgeable trading forums?

If you would like you can send me a message, if you'd like.

Thanks!

Looks like Germany is doing it's part in helping us re-explore lows. Time to see some real panic in Europe?

Based on your questions and your generic appeal for guidance, I am guessing that you haven't read much of this thread.

Read (or reread) this thread and then ask again.

In regards to asking for behind the scenes correspondence with somebody, not that many are willing to take on projects that are just starting. You won't be able to offer anything of value in analysis - POV for a while and that Lack of Value will be a deterrent.

Mango, you are right, on several points.

In know way am I trying to ask for secrets or anything of the such, I was just curious if anyone could give me a few good books/websites to review, so I wouldn't have to spend countless hours searching for it on the net and reading some bs. If no one wants to help me, or doesn't have the info im seeking, I have no problem finding it myself; I don't want to be a distraction to someone else.

I have no experience with day trading or swing trading, I only have read some about technical analysis. This is why i'm reaching out here to see if anyone could recommend a good resource, in no way am I asking for a mentor or someone to give me their system or formulas. I can develop those on my own. My only experience is in value trading and long term. I used that approach bc I have experience using balance/income statements.

I do recognize this is probably the wrong place to have made a post, but I didn't see the need in starting a new thread and thought maybe one of my clutchfan brothers could just point me into the direction of my new journey.

hoplite,

I see that you participated in the Roth Ira discussion, but found no record of you posting in this thread.

There are some links and information in this thread that answer some of your questions, but you appear reluctant to skim though it looking for that information.

There are plenty of additional links to give you, but unti we see something of a track record in this thread, it is impossible to know which will suit you best.

Even though you appear to think that systems and indicators are the Keys to the Kingdom, the biggest hurdles are the mental aspects of:

1.Taking a Loss and moving on to the next trade.

2. Being able to not letting that Loss discourage you from taking the next trade.

3. Being able to recognize the difference between a Dry Spell and trying to trade something that doesn't suit your approach - methods.

Funny how the market is being sucked towards those "flash crash" lows which were supposedly a mistake ;p
