A pack of twinkies and a two liter bottle of coca cola (both corn based) is much cheaper and has more calories than the equivalent $$ amount of rice beans or tuna

And for the last time, eating massive amounts of carbohydrates like rice and beans is not much better for you.

I know this sounds crazy to you, but 1) it does, as demonstrated previously, and 2) most of the food stamp using public does not and has no access to Sam's Club or Costco to buy cases of tuna that would eat up most of their monthly food budget, and 3) you can't eat tuna every single day and pronounce yourself as having a healthy diet.

I know this may sound crazy to you, but Sam's does not save you that much cash. They are more expensive on Tuna. I know you only eat sashimi in American Psycho like restaurants but I have over 10 cans of tuna in my pantry right now, and I paid 50 cents a can.

OK here we go with the MATH!!!

A 2 liter cola has about 68 ounces in it. 150 calories per 12 ounces so 850 calories per 2 liter (on sale they cost about one dollar, any arguments?)

I just looked on my 20 lb bag of rice that cost 20 bucks. 189 servings of 170 calories or 1600 calories per dollar. Almost twice as much.

Oh yeah I forgot to get to the carb comments. Rice and beans has protein not just carbs. Seriously I dunno how old you are but get some better nutritional info, heart attack is the biggest killer out there. (not firearms)

You didn't add in the twinkies (ok make them ding dongs, 368 calories) - and you're fudging the numbers by using a bulk unit to compare to a smaller unit.

A 20 lb bag of rice sure - howver most people, especially in urban areas, don't buy 20 lb bags of rice. Most people will buy smaller packs where the unit cost is substantially higher ($1.50 per pound or more).

And finally - the fact that you think canned tuna and a 20 lb bag of rice constitutes a healthy diet remains laughable.

LOL - find me the cardiologist who recommends that you increase your rice and bean intake to limit heart disease.

I didn't add the twinkies because they would hurt you on cost. They have a worse calories/dollar ratio

I bought my rice in chinatown which is pretty freakin urban. It lasts forever and there is no reason not to buy it in bulk. The initial cost is so low. And if I cannot use a 20lb bag then I will change the Cola to a 20oz for 79 cents or make the 2 liter cost 2.19 like it does in a gas station.

also an actual hungry person would take hot rice and beans over a glass of coke 7 days out of the week but the challenge was fun.

    Lean protein = good

insoluble and soluble fiber = great!

They also fill you with less calories total which will help to keep you at a healthy weight.

And in general my concern stemmed from the fact you didn't know rice and beans is an excellent source of protein.

We used to live on 250 bucks a month for a family of 4 in the early 80s.

I remember eating lots of chicken every day. Rice and those really cheap noodles (not instant).

Really? they cost 50 cents and have a nearly 400 calories - if I expanded my sample size to 20 lbs of twinkies the unit cost is probably even lower.

400X2 is 800 per dollar which is less than the cola. Remember? Cola has 850 per dollar. I knew lawyers sucked at math but this is crazy.

If you can find 20lb packs in a store feel free to do the math. In the meantime this "I am poor so I have to be fat" should be silenced.

    Cola is about $1.50-$2.00

And an individual serving of rice from uncle ben's(the equivalent of a 50-cent pack of twinkies) is WAY WAY MORE than $1 per pound, more like 2$ per pound or more.

I don't know how many more times you want to have to push the laughable contention that eating massive quantities of rice is a healthy diet but keep it up.

If you are saying cola is 1.50 per 2 liter than the number I gave of 850 goes way down. I was giving you the sale price of $1 per 2 liter. Rice is not the only thing that is cheaper, but feel free to compare asian heart disease with ours if you need some health proof.

I dunno how much twinkies are cause I never buy them, but they are not cheaper than healthy, real food. It may be easier and taste better, but not cheaper.

Also I think you picked about the best food in Cola for price/ calorie and it got stomped on. No one is going to be able to maintain a cola and twinkie diet and other junk foods have much worse ratios.

Rice with Tuna and cheap cheese is a good one. Or sub the rice for scalloped potato and make like a casserole.

I really like the cheap burger recipe of eggs and oatmeal mixed with tuna. Make pattys and fry. Pancakes are also great and cheap.

I should start a healthy meal recipe thread in the Hangout.

Did it? Why don't you rerun this with an 8.8 oz bag of Uncle Ben's ($2.39).

And why don't you explain to me why carb-loaded foods like rice are not carb-loaded foods?

Totino's Crispy Crust Frozen Pizza (edible crack) = $1

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner = $3 a day

    3 * 31 = $93

    Money left over to splurge!

With 102 degree heat and a reflector, you don't even need an oven.

    Problem solved.
