OK Stimulant Expert.... Caffeine is NOT perfectly safe. In fact, it can cause a lot of adverse effects, especially with prolonged use. You can ask my cardiologist. I was asked to eliminate caffeine from my diet due to it causing PVC's....or premature ventricular contractions. Look that up. Normally, PVC's are not a huge ordeal, besides scaring you to death thinking your heart is going to beat out of your chest. But they can be dangerous, and even deadly. By the way, I was kidding about the sugar packets. Where are people's sense of humor these days?
Well considering you have a cardiologist I imagine alot of crap is not available to you. That does not mean it isn't perfectly safe to a normal person.
Yeah but its the crap they put in it that makes it even more addictive. All the added chemicals to enhance the high. Plus smoking it has the ability to put it in your blood stream so fast that it gives you hard and fast blood concentration levels. A gum, even if you took the same amount of nicotine, would reach about a third of the blood levels of a cigarette but it would last longer. So for example you might have .4mg released steadily over 5 hours compared to .5 over 15 minutes then a crash to 0 in 45 minutes (which makes you want another cig) Frankly it sounds like you should just avoid stimulants. And you can try all the non stimulant stuff you want to but when 4:30am rolls around you might think twice.
Ha ha....I'm not normal now? Funny. Actually, my heart is perfectly healthy. And I don't "have a cardiologist" per se. Although I did go to see one for this issue. Let me explain in a bit more detail. I was referred to a cardiologist for the problem (the PVC's) to have a stress test for peace of mind (my regular doc was not worried per se, but he advised it anyway) more than anything. But I do not see a cardiologist regularly. In fact, once I cut out caffeine, the problem ceased altogether and I haven't been back since except for the follow up. So again, my heart is fine, healthy, NORMAL, etc. But caffeine causes this particular issue in me, and from what I understand (according to the doc), many other people as well. People just don't realize what the cause is. My whole point here was that you state caffeine is perfectly safe, but I know for a fact it is not. I'll listen to a medical professional over a BBS poster anytime.
Go to Walgreens, look near the pharmacy, and pick up Bronkaid. It's ephedrine. It will keep you awake. It's a much safer alternative than green tea extract... jk.
If your heart is normal than caffeine will not cause these problems. Or more specifically in your case its probably a CNS issue.
Dude....come on.....are you serious? So I am going to take your word that my heart is not normal and healthy over a cardiologist? I'll call the doc today and tell him that "CaseyH" disagrees with him about his findings. Hilarious. You should look into the effects of stimulants on your brain. Just go Google "Caffeine irregular heartbeat" and you'll find a wealth of information from doctors, and not some guy who thinks he's an expert in a basketball forum.
OK, let me just ask this. Is it possible to work a graveyard shift without stimulants? I mean the work is just on Friday and Saturday night and not a 40 hour a week job. Can I just adjust and adapt and work the shift without being drousy, sleepy, etc. or do you need something to keep you active?
you may get a bit tired every now and then, but you can adjust easily. Just make sure you get plenty of sleep at other times and a eating healthy and excercise certainly help you be more alert
Try apples. I read somewhere that it will give you more energy than caffeine from coffee. I've tried it a couple of times and it seems to work.
OMG the I'm so owned. I've been served. You are totally right. Its totally normal to drink coffee then have your heart feel like its coming out of your body. WTF was I thinking?

Agreed. I'm never bringing up stimulants if we ever meet at a CF gathering. Anyways be sure to grab some Folgers after you wake up from your short nap. Who can forget, "The beesst paaart off waking up is Folgers in your cuuuuup" <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/feZ3htf4C1I"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/feZ3htf4C1I" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> These boys agree.
I'm guessing this is Drug Week here at Clutchfans? First weed, then caffeine, so whats next? I vote for a Xanax thread.
Maybe it's all the roids I am on, and not so much the caffeine!!!!!!!! GRRRRR!!! (Kidding.....I'm not really on roids....nor caffeine........but your post was funny!!)
