Surveys, data, microtargeting - sure you can peal people away on these issues. But at the end of the day, the data has always shown, it's the economy. People's self-interest trumps everything. Inflation was the issue that Trump won on - make no mistake about it.

What's funny is that they come from very different places, but are united in their hate. Chowd seems to come from a quite religious Muslim family, served in the military, probably had to deal with some actual racists, which greatly influenced his world views, to some extent understandably so, seems like a blue collar guy, read a couple of articles or books about Weimar and the 1920s and now considers himself an intellectual and calls everyone a fascist. DD, while not particularly educated, has been fairly successful, not as poor as chowd and some of the other leftists, is clearly quite racist himself, but seems to be fighting his own demons and therefore calls all conservatives racists and fascists - there is a ton of projection going on there. xopher just seems like a redneck, not very educated, quite brainwashed by leftist talking points, but probably ok to have a beer with when he is not trying to talk about politics.
