No. People just assume we are going to tank. Thats only because they want Howard. Truth is, this team as constructed, is too good to tank.
But, look at the benches. Camby/Dalembert vs. Asik/Smith: Even Scola/Patterson vs. Patterson/Motiejunas: Even Parsons/Budinger vs. Parsons/Morris/White: Even Martin/Lee vs. Martin/Lamb: 2012 Team Dragic/Lowry vs. Lin/Douglas/Livingston: 2012 Team Plus, so many of these guys are rookies, even bad defending veterans are still veterans. D-Mo, Lamb, Jones, and White are going to have a tough time with the speed. Defensively, we're going to be taking a big step back. In every other way too.
this years team is completely different from last years team. however good we were at something last year, we may not be that good anymore..and vice versa, however bad we were at something last year, we may be better now.
Camby/Dalembert vs. Asik/Smith: Even Scola/Patterson vs. Patterson/Motiejunas: 2012 Parsons/Budinger vs. Parsons/Morris/White: 2012 Martin/Lee vs. Martin/Lamb: 2012 Team Dragic/Lowry vs. Lin/Douglas/Livingston: 2011 Team that's what i think.
Completely different team. I wouldn't take too much from last year with no time to practice and different personnel. There's a good bet that Asik alone makes us decent defensively.
I agree the bench will maybe have problems defensively. I am just hoping that they can make up for it offensively. Not sure about them taking a step back because like i mentioned, that starting line-up will be better defensively.
Agreed, defensively, the only thing that has changed is Asik. Lowry and Dragic were pretty good perimeter defenders.
Team defense is going to be a problem I think, especially if the rookies play a lot of minutes. That and bone-head mistakes by rookies. Water through a sieve...
That's going to be offset by this team's athleticism in large part though. This is obviously not going to be a veteran team getting all the calls, but it's going to be a very young, very athletic team that can go hard the entire game. Lin and Asik have excellent defensive instincts to start, and lots of young legs to support them. I think this can be an average defensive team this season, and perhaps above average in years to come.
Hopefully our defense is bad enough to get some good odds in the lottery. But our starting lineup as is will be above average defensively.
I think you're under-estimating how aggressive alexander/morey have been and will be in acquiring talent this offseason and next. As is, I don't see the rockets winning any less than 35 games at minimum, and could realistically win 42. The Rocks are definitely not looking to rebuild through successive drafts.
Who cares, with today's NBA, to much defense can backfire on your at times if you don't have the proper two way players. Rather have a bunch of offense, rather than all defense who can't score at all. The NBA now days, you need offense, and lots of it.
y would u say that? there is no indication of that other than the fact that they both have similar body type
if our squad stays as is were probably gonna be losing a lot either way, so prepare yourself....if multiple guys break out, ill go buck-wild lol. either way, our D is probably not gonna be that solid.
Did you watch the summer league games? It was at the most optimistic analysis "so-so"; against NBA players, it will be worse and he will definitely be a defensive liability like Martin and like most rookies in general (some exceptions). He has the potential to improve, but at the moment, he is not the quickest laterally, and can get posted up EASILY.
