Rockets as a TEAM is best in transition and cutting. Surprised no Nwaba data, would have assumed he was the most effective in transition at least. Wood is an absolute beast in ISO and spot up shooting. Porter is 2nd. No other Rocket comes close to these 2 in these areas. PnR ballhandler data is concerning. Rockets need another true playmaker. PnR roller data is concerning too, Theis is best there obviously but it is his frequency, almost double Wood and Sengun. No KJ data? Team as a whole also very effective spot up shooters. No Snipa or Augustin data?
Kenyon just started playing in the last 3 games. Last season both Kenyon and Tate scored well as Roll Man in PnR.
IMO we need to use Tate more . He’s great (Relative to the rest of the team) in transition and makes the right decisions . Ofc he needs to keep working on his handle .. but I’d like to try him as PnR ball handler . Now teams will probably just go under screens all day , but Tate can use change of pace OK ... and maybe one day the shot gets there . plus , he seemed to improve his corner 3 as the year went on last season
Ofc is who? Our f****n coach? Porter Jr and Green put the pressure on the defense as 2 (ball handler/roll man) vs 2 defenders. The fear being both Green and Porter can sky high and get the high % dunk. So teams have to send 3 defenders to the paint which in turn opens up a 3-point shooter somewhere along the perimeter. But our 3-pt shooters need to shoot it. I question Tates confidence shooting 3's......and I believe opponents question it as well. Tate is crafty and can get in the paint......but remember Draymond being able to guard both Harden and that lob threat to Capela. Tate is kinda grounded and doesn't bring the same fear factor as Green/Porter. But I do like Tate practicing while coming in with the second unit. I would have the 3-point threat of Kenyon starting over Tate. Kenyon gives the Rockets vertical spacing as Jackson Gatlin said it on Locked on Rockets podcast. As Kenyon creeps along the baseline for some back door cuts / lob threats. Sengun to starter takes the post up and roll man and hand offs / passing creator off the second unit. So Tate fills in as a creator while with second unit. --------- If starters: Porter jr/Green/Kenyon/Wood/Sengun then 2nd unit might be: Eric Gordon/Armoni/*House/Tate/Theis *If House comes back from Injury? ------- Theis scores higher than Sengun and Wood as roll man right now....so the PnR for Porter/Green loses that. But the 2nd unit gets better with: *Eric Gordon scores around 94 in NBA percentile as ball handler in PnR. *Theis scores in the 50's in NBA percentile as roll man in PnR. *Armoni Brooks and Eric Gordon provide space as 3-point shooters while Tate operates with the ball. Or ?House? So one can see how strengthening one unit weakens the other unit. Staggering the rotation brings up issues as well. Especially since Green, Sengun are not use to the NBA grind or travel schedule the NBA forces players to undergo. If Jalen Green and Sengun could play 34 minutes each and stay out of foul trouble....then no problem. But they can't. At least not right now.
Playing Wood at the 4 was a mistake, is a mistake and will be a mistake. Silas takes a 20/10 player and changes his role. BRILLIANT Theis is the role player, let HIM adapt his game instead. Porter - EGo - Tate - KJ - Wood should be the starters with the following coming off the bench: Green Snipa/Augustin Nwaba/JC Theis/Garuba Sengun
so how many more losses it gonna take to change the starting lineup? am i the only taking crazy pills here? is silas just insisting on the starting lineup because he never had one last season? just sheer ineptitude.
I think it was Salman Ali. He let it slip that Silas once invited him to his office to chat basketball (line ups). Salman saw Silas had lot of data (presumably lineups) in his office. Also his impression is that Silas is very knowledgable on basketball. Having data and the theoretical is well and good, but translating that to wins is not easy; as we've seen with the current losing streak. Like many others, I'm for not playing House, starting Sengun and giving KJ more minutes. That said, I don't know if this is a magic pill, but it might help the team (even if it incrementally).
Just curious, have we ever run a lineup of: Garuba Sengun Martin Jr Green Christopher Not claiming it would be good, but would be interesting to see such a young and talented bunch try to make it work.
We needed to replace Theis yesterday. Give Sengun 25 plus minutes a night. Porter is not a Point Guard he might be a Point Forward(small forward) but he needs to score for our team not making turnovers. He scored 16 points a game last year now 12 PPG?
a doozy already tonight. apparently Silas looked over his notes and decided that Sengun should play less minutes...
Honestly. Wood has lost his confidence and confused. You can see Gordon is FRUSTRATED....Silas do not know what he is doing
