Actually stats aren't everything, but think of it, Normally people who dont follow Francis, Kidd, or Payton would immediately determine that Payton is the best because of his stats. i know it's sad, but you gotta admit that it's the way it is, and the way they choose NBA All-Stars. Would anyone care if Kobe was a cancer to his team or not??? NO! he scores 29 points a game and that's why he's an all-star(not to mention he plays in LA). point is, right now everyone would say GP is a better pg than Francis, except for Rocket fans who follow Steve and know how much he means to the team (probably more than Gary means to the Sonics).

in summation verse, Gary Payton is a better PG than Francis [IMG]

Kidd in his wildest wet dream wished he could run a fast-break better than Jason Williams.

    (Where's the Alliteration Police?)

I've said it before and I'll say it, again: Jason Kidd is not that good. Above average, at best. He is slow laterally, in-consistent from the perimeter, and I suspect, would prove in-effective against intelligent, defensive players/teams.

Steve is betta than both, hands down! Houston balla u r exactly right, if it was steve vs. gp or steve vs. kidd, i'd guarantee u all the money in the world steve would whoop them both. Let me tell you why> Steve is stronger and thats simply it!!!!!!! he can outmuscle gp and kidd. i dont see why the rockets dont run many post ups for him. he simply outmatches just about all the pg's in the nba. Franchize would tear them all up, and all of you who talk about how many points and assists kidd and payton have? let me tell u something: Who is player in the nba that has the most chance of getting a triple double everynight? none otha than STEVE FRANCHIZE

Point guard seems to be the only position where the terms "better player" and "best at your position" could mean different things. The fact is, the Rockets are overachieving this season BIG-TIME. Our oldest starter is Shandon Anderson, in his 4th year (unless Hakeem is now the new starting center, which it looks like he is). Francis is our best player (Mobley is VERY close, though). This either means that Francis is awesome, or Rudy is an amazing coach. I happen to think a little of both are true. Screw all this "who's the better point guard" crap. Who even knows what that means? Would the Rockets be better than they are now with Payton or Kidd instead of Francis? That's the kind of question that needs to be asked to figure out who the better player is. Unfortunately, I think on THIS team, Payton or Kidd would both leave us with a better record than Francis. All that means though is that Rudy is an outstanding coach, because Payton and Kidds' teams are both underachieving right now, and if Rudy was coaching those teams, they'd probably be at the top of the league. I guess I've basically said nothing in all of this.

On the question of "who would you want to take the final shot for your team--Francis, Payton, or Kidd", I'd have to take Francis. In my mind, that's an important question, and Francis scores major points there.

Also...verse--I believe Kidd was NBA All-Defense last year or the year before.

Actually SwiftRocket, Kidd consistantly leads the league in triple-doubles while Francis has two for his career.

    btw,

    i believe TheFreak nailed it.

francis is probably the best player.

kidd is probably the best at his position.

anyone care to revisit this argument? cause right now, i've got francis purty high up on the list.

the season's almost done, and given the last 30 days #s that steve has put up, how can you argue that jason is better? or gary for that matter?

If he keeps this up and not go into a slump, hands down he's the best point guard in the NBA RIGHT NOW...I take my comments back from a few months ago [IMG]

It has been a pleasure to watch Steve grow as a player and leader this year. Here are my top 5 PGs in the NBA:

    1. Kidd (Still the best playmaker and a better defender than Steve...)
    2. Steve (...but Steve is catching up fast and should be all-NBA next year, has the most talent and upside)
    3. Baron (Needs to shoot 200-500 jumpers a day in the offseason, shaky J only thing holding him back)
    4. Marbury (I bet he wishes he were in Minn now)
    5. Payton (Disappointing year for one of the game's best, needs a change of scenery and position (SG anyone?))

And you could easily make an argument for Brandon, Miller, and Stoudamire.
