Don't forget where Steve brings his game from - the playground - where talking **** and demeaning your opponent are an integral part of the game that is not only tolerated in large doses, but practically expected. Plus it's no secret there's bad blood b/t Steve and KG so I'm not surprised at all that Steve would milk this win for all it's worth and give their whole team and crowd a lil extra something special to go home with. I don't see any harm in it. One poster mentioned that Steve has no right to do this kind of stuff since we have a losing record. I beg to differ - we all know this team can compete with anyone out there save the Fakers when we're healthy and playing smart. It's not like we haven't beaten all these teams on their homecourt before. I'm sure Steve has no lack of confidence believing he is justified in talking **** to Bryant, Iverson, Payton or whoever. I thought he was fouled on that drive (b4 the shot) but getting the T was just dumb. *as always, IMHO - do yo own research fool*
We came back from a 7 point deficit with about a minute left to go. We have no shot at winning the championship this year as is. Why not celebrate as if we did? At least he didn't take off his shirt and get on top of the scorer's table.
I'm not sure if that's it, because it seems like only recently he's started to have more of an attitude. Personally, I think his intensity level has been raised, and I like it!
Stevie knows what he is doing...His job is to get his teamates involved in the game and maybe he is starting to realize that the trash talking is motivating his young team. I could care less if every official, fan and player began to hate Steve as long as we started to kick some a** and win games.
Saying US Basketball doesn't want him because of his "antics" is one of the most idiotic things I have ever heard. They don't want Francis, but they'll take Allen Iverson and his image, Karl Malone and his reputation, Charles Barkley and his reputation for being physical on the court and out-spoken. But I guess the people putting together the UC team thought "You can elbow a man and open his head and knock him unconscious, you can break his ribs, you can get into a bar fight, you can cut records ripping gays, but god forbid you argue with the officials, we can have any of that!" Somehow, I don't think that happened.
I agree and on top of that, a lot of the technicals Francis got in previous seasons were celebration technicals rather than argument technicals. I guess they just don't want anyone too enthusiastic to represent the country on the world stage.
There is no smoke without fire. He does have alot of growing up to do. In fact, one of the keys for us getting to that level is the need for more leadership from Wink. Mobley has made strides in that area, but Wink has not. I do understand that it is a fine line. For some time now I have been longing for Steve to "clean up his act". All the turnovers, the excessive dribbling, the sturborness against double teams and not passing the ball and the excessive hassling of the refs are all part of the lack of sufficient, prime-time maturity on the part of Steve. More maturity to go with that special talent. Everybody on this team has work to do this off season. Just like Tmo has to shoot alot of shots, Steve has to pay attention to the finer things of his game , like being a point guard and being a team leader. I have no doubt that he can correct these things.
I thought it was pretty obvious that the reason he didnt make that team was because Stu Jackson picked the players. Has Jackson really ever done anything successfully?
I agree Seems like the same people Pissed off cause Tiger Woods shows emotion in the Vulcan sport of Golf Competition is emotional If he thought he got hack [which probably had more to do with the missed hacks on him all game long. . it was a last straw thing] Steve is just fine not everyone can be a vulcan and just shot run score go home and have a sprite. Without the emotion . . the game looses something ASK THE NFL!@!!!!!1 Rocket River Still wanna see Billy White Shoes Johnson celebrate in the endzone!!!!!
let's all remember when we were 25...we were pretty cocky too, but let's not equate trash talking to maturing and leadership! yes, Steve still is learning and growing and needing to mature before we get to the next level. But, the trashtalking is everywhere in this league and historically part of the game. Long before Michael was winning championships, he was trashtalking.....and still is today! Steve will learn, but let's not turn this into a need for Steve to be a Choir Boy thread, because that is bogus and lame.
Did he spit on a little girl, did he go into the crowd and punch someone, did he kick a cammera man in the balls, did he play 52 pick up with someones notes?? No ! I think some of you need to grow up!!!! GO FRANCIS!!
steve has a bad attitude because he got into it with the crowd?? you've never seen Kobe, or AI do this?? Bad attitude? You got to be kidding.. and Payton? If we traded for him, then we'd have to trade him because he talks too much trash right? GIVE ME A BREAK! Have any of you ever played in a high atmosphere basketball game? When you get into it with the crowd it only motivates you - it sure as hell did me. He beat the crowd and led the comeback - he's showing why hes an all-star. Stop the bashing. As for that clutch incident I'm pretty sure he wasn't serious DCKid..alot of players mess with clutch. And for the ignoring rudy - he WANTED the ball, he WANTED to win the game - something we've been asking him to do for a long time. Now be happy we're winning and lets close this thread. -LTF
Yo Verse, while we on this TWolves thread lemme tell you tha new AND1 KG's are tha dopest shoes out there right now for ballin....Git yoself a pair no doubt...
I'd like to meet you on the court one day, because you obviously have no idea what you're talkin about.
Actually RocketKid, he does have a valid point. Have you ever play organized ball with a loud opposing crowd? That's a big motivation. And some guys on here wonder why he taunts them and goes on and on. It's called motivation - KG does it all the time. Let Francis become a superstar, don't bash his steps up. -LTF
Give Rocketkid a break. Maybe Rocketkid just forgot to weigh in the heckling crow factor as being a reason for Steves response. And if he did take that into account and still feels the way he does then so what, he's entitled to his opinion. That doesn't mean he can't ball. To say such a stupid thing tells me you're the one who is sitting on the park bench with a dodgers cap and high socks past his knees begging to get in a game. Hey though, maybe just maybe he has a point. Hell I kinda agree with him. Just because a crowd is heckling you doesn't mean one should heckle the crowd back. Hey, i didn't see Mobley doing this or Griffin, why does Steve think he needs to do these things. Hey why not just stick to congratulating your teamates and celebrating with them. This is a team sport not a personal battle. This team has no room to flapp its mouth, they've been getting their asses kicked all season long. What does it say about a team when the supposed leaders do table dances(moochie norris) and crowd taunts after close victorys? To me, It seems to say that when they do win games like these that they're so shocked and suprised that they can't help but piss in their pants. And thats not the confident attitude one would hope to see.
