Agreed, So what if he guarantees a victory. As so many have pointed out, it is just a motivational speach. He is definately a soldier, the way he played through injuries this playoffs deserves all the respect. The way he played in game 6 is admireable. the lose was not due to nash, but amare. The guy needs to man up and rebound the ball. With him its always gonna be about the high light dunks and blocks. Thats not gonna win you anything. The offensive rebounding by the lakers is what killed the suns. Especially in the fourth quarter. Although playing zone does not help, but Amare really needs to box out every now and then.
How many 2 time mvp winners are there? In fact how many back to back mvps are there? Heck, how many non-american back to back mvps are there? Nash is a first ballot HOF. Something is terribly wrong if he is not. MVP is in many ways a far greater achievement than a ring.
A ring is a team achievement. I am really tired of people using rings to measure individual greatness. MVP doesn't prove anything either. It is more like a beauty queen contest, just a bunch of subjective opinions. Ask Hakeem and Robinson. That said, Nash is one of the best shooters and passers of all time. He pretty much has no holes in his offensive game. If only he could play some defense, he'd be up there with the all time greats.
idk guys.. he guarentees a win, loses the game, then starts breaking down at the post-game conference. GG
As good as Nash is, he has never seemed like the guy you want to got to when closing out a game of this magnitude. I believe they would have had a better chance to win if they had never removed Dragic from the game.
Right, but who else on the Suns team is more capable of clutch shots? You could argue Stoudemire, but he was bothered by Gasol and Odom / Bynum the whole game. If I was Gentry, I would just let Nash have at it, and take whatever shot he wanted.
Hes certainly capable of making clutch shots, but I've never seen him make a game winner besides that shot in 06 with the new ball.
Did not know that but just going to the finals counts as much as going to the conference finals, you still came up short. He's getting up there in age now so his window is probably closed especially if the Suns have to rebuild if they lose Amare. Damn shame, he couldn't play for the Lakers or the Celts who have played in a combined 32 NBA finals, he's going to the HOF but his legacy would have been cemented if he had played for LA or Boston.
Honestly, I'd still have him take the shot. How clutch is Richardson? I mean, I know he hit that shot to tie the game in GM 5... Richardson seems like a good option too.
Nothing but respect for Nash. Tough dude, hard worker, plays his ass off. I would imagine he would be pretty devastated as the realization that the end of his career is coming and he won't make it to the Finals dawns.
What? I haven't posted in this thread until now. Anyway, much ado about nothing. To win you have to believe you can win. To inspire your team, you have to let them know you can win. I have no problem with what he said. Basketball's a tough game... there are games you think you can win, but sometimes you lose to a better team, sometimes you lose to a better player, and sometimes you beat yourself.
I thought Dragic was being less effective towards the end there. Also, people thought that Nash should actually have come in a little bit earlier in that 4th quarter (see Hollinger, Simmons, etc.). Nash is usually able to turn up his offensive game a notch during those moments. He's always been clutch in his career, so I'm not sure about your comment. He's willed his team to important wins before.
How many 2 time MVP never played Finals? The 1st MVP was fine. If anything, the 2nd MVP marked Nash one of the most overrated player in history. Shaq had 1, Kobe had 1, and Nash had 2?
