It depends on how you look at it though. Amare is still going to score a bunch of points cuz the knicks are just gonna give him the ball (who else would the give it to) and let him work. His percentages might come down but even if he is able to maintain the similar numbers, it is highly suspect whether it will be enough to carry NY. Ive live in PHX and watch the suns a lot. I dont think Amare can carry a team. Just my opinion.
I'd take an over the hill Nash who just averaged 16 pts, 11 assists on 50/40/90 shooting while being the heart of a 50+ win team. I doubt AB ever does that even in his peak years. No slight to AB, cuz no one else in the NBA is putting up those numbers, either.
He thinks Nash should come off the bench despite being equal or better than Brooks in every facet of the game.
nope, but i think we can kiss goodbye any chance of keeping here long term after a move like that. He'll be gone first chance he gets and Houston won't get anything in return
I think Nash / Lowry is a better 1-2 punch than Nash / Brooks anyway. Brooks is an immense talent. But our team needs a distributor. Particularly to Yao. Nash can be the piece that T-mac never was able to be. A true triple threat player since he has the jump shot. Drive, shoot, pass. With Martin, Yao, Scola, and C-Bud to pass to, it's a great effect on the team. Our problem is that we're too one-on-one still. Nash brings passing. We've already thrown away the D, might as well sup up the O to everything you can get out of it. Nash does that.
how long is the qualifying offer for? Isn't it one year? Would he be able to sign it and unofficially convince other teams not to make offerns, so he'd be unrestricted the next year?
I would do brooks for nash. Brooks will want 10mil so basically we will be paying 16mil for our pg's. For not having a true super star at the point that is a lot.
He doesn't have to convince other teams not to make offers. He can just accept the QO rather than a multi-year offer from another team. If, that is, he wants to take on all kind of risks related to injury, perfomrance, etc. rather than taking what is likely tens of millions of dollars in guaranteed money. Is it worth it just so he can start rather than backing up one of the greatest PG of all time? Is he guaranteed to have no competition for the starting job at another location?
If you are Orlando, of course you do this trade. I'll be the first to admit that Nash can no longer play 25-30 minutes every game the entire season, but Magic don't need him to do that. They simply need a good floor general and closer for the playoffs. Hedo did that 1 years and Vince choked in that role last year. They can get a Top 3 seed without Nash in the regular season, and they have a legit defense (when they try) and enough scorers so that Nash does not have to carry the team.
I'm not saying Amare can be replaced easily, its just that someone like Nash can make a team with no all stars competitive if they have the right type of players. Amare is an elite finisher but a finisher who can't create for himself is pretty much half a player. Lets not forget that PHX with prime Amare, prime Marion and prime Joe Johnson were pretty much a lottery team before Nash arrived. Also I've never seen Amare step up and carry a team whenever Nash was injured.
