Ish "almost" makes Lowry expendable, especially for a player who may be injury prone, earning nearly $6M/year as a backup. Therefore, I would say yes to the OP's proposal for Nash. Now, would the Suns bite on it???
I don't think the Suns will take that for Nash. If Nash was in his last year, then maybe. Nash is older, but his game can be played as an old man to some degree as he doesn't depend on athleticism and he's relatively light. The Suns want Brooks. And we have to think, Nash is definitely an upgrade from Brooks on the offensive end, and not much worse on the defensive end. Brooks is a more explosive scorer, but Nash is by far a better passer. The Suns are in rebuilding mode. They don't have the talent to contend anymore, and they don't have a bright future as their team is too good to get lottery picks. I think they would want Brooks. And the picks. You throw in Jeffries to help with salaries. But I think what you can do is get their older players...guys like Turkaglu are old enough to be ejected by the Suns...maybe even Jason Richardson who is getting close to being past his prime. The Rockets have Battier, Yao, Scola, Miller, Martin....a vetern group. Morey has to be thinking that since Melo ain't coming here, there has to be another way to turn this team into a contender. I think the Suns make an interesting partner for that.
The one DD suggestion that I'm not opposed to. Except Morey's a baller so he'll haggle hard with Phoenix and end up giving them the Rockets 2012 pick rather than any of the Knicks' picks which will surely be better than ours. Lowry's a great player with toughness and defense that embodies our team mentality. But at the MLE he's no longer a huge "steal" per se, and Nash right now is still way better. Can you imagine Brooks coming off the bench as a sparkplug? The only problem is that we'd have no defense to speak of whatsoever from the PG spot. Still, Martin + Nash = most efficient backcourt of all time.
Boy, you are really an aggie. Scola is 30 years old, one day he will be 35 but not anytime soon.
PGs are on the rise in the league. We have no one to slow down Rose, Paul, Wall, Williams, Rondo, Nelson etc if we are to give up Lowry.
No to Brooks for Nash unless we are involving getting someone else back. I think Brooks is worth more than Nash for his youth. So we would have to get back Nash and something else for Brooks and what we offer it involvd Brooks. For sure a old point guard like Nash isnt the worth of a new Point guard who is just getting into his prime.
A 40yr old Steve Nash for an up and coming player in Brooks? I'm sorry. I'll stick with Brooks. He reminds me to much like a young Tony Parker but potentially better. Plus as small as he is, his defense is STILL better than Steve Nash's.
