Got mad respect for him, and he's learned from some of the best coaches, his pops got assassinated in Iran while he was in college and he played the next day for Arizona.
Do you feel that Scott Brooks was the reason that OKC went from an 8th seed to the conference finals and then the nba finals?
People give the head coaches too much or too little credit while failing to mention the assistant coaches. Mark Jackson fans give him too much credit without mentioning that Mike Malone was important in setting that defensive system up. The game hasn't really evolved so much that coaching "unit" is a new concept. When Phil Jackson started he had Tex Winters and Johnny Bach to help him with the x and o's back in the days. It comes down to Steve Kerr knowing he needs help on the bench and picking the right guys to learn from while on the job. So GS success should go to the "unit" instead of the individual.
OP, I feel that you you are undervaluing his career as a player. Nobody gets to play in the NBA for 15 yrs if all you can do is shoot the ball. With regards to his view towards the Rockets championship team, he openly admitted that that was the only team they didn't have an answer for and was so difficult to beat mainly because of he Dream
No. They had a slow but steady assent. #8 seed to #4 seed to #2 seed to #1 seed. That shows gradual improvement of experience of the talent and familiarity with each other. Everyone knew that team was going to improve by year because they had one of the two best players in the league and had been adding a ton of really high end talent. Those things played a role here too - but that doesn't take you overnight from run-of-the-mill #6 seed to 10 games clear of the field and possibly the best record in the NBA since the 72-win Bulls. Very few people expected GS to be a #1 seed, let alone a historically good team team. So let's not act like it's just the natural, obvious progression of what would have done with Jackson.
He's improved them sure, maybe 2-3 games at best. Replacing the worst pf defender in a league with kevin love with the best defensive pf in the league and the help in spacing has been the biggest difference...by far (just look at the Clippers game, Curry and Thompson had to go 7-13 on 3's to make up for what was happening at PF against a Clippers team on a really bad shooting night), Klay's upped them a few games and having basically no injuries has upped them a lot too, their bench has improved a lot too. This ridiculous notion that a coach is worth this many wins or even close to it? dear lord, that was the impact of adding michael jordan back as well as dennis rodman to the bulls.
Deserves to be COY, but I think he has a terrific coaching staff... Kerr made some terrific moves that truly allowed the Warriors to take off: 1. Moved Andre Iguodala to the bench and replaced him with Harrison Barnes 2. Moved David Lee to the bench and replaced him with Draymond Green 3. Improved offensive efficiency. There is essentially no more wasted offensive possessions that the Warriors run any longer. Yes Curry takes some crazy shots, but their half court sets have been much more effective than prior years. They are still consistent on their transition game, but it has been the evolution of their offense that has allowed them to succeed. Any one of the 5 players on the court can score at any time. Yes it has been a surprise to see that Draymond Green playing like a beast this season, but getting Andre Iguodala and David Lee (both of whom) are proven starters in this league to buy in and come of the bench was a miracle. The Warriors bench unit consists of versatility and consistent scoring: Marreese Speights David Lee Andre Iguodala Leandro Barbosa Shawn Livingston
I have 2 questions. If Kerr is absent until lets say January, February and Warriors continue with this kind of record, is Walton going to be the coach of the all star team? Also, does this show that Warriors are well oiled machine no matter who coaches them and they are full with talent? Yes, Kerr introduced them to this kind of philosophy, but the coach is also responsible for in game adjustments, etc. (unlike McHale who only does *clap clap* play harder ) and I don't think that Walton is that good of a coach (I have watched the warriors only once this season) ?
