George Gervin is going to hunt you down, for saying that. :)

Bill had some good points with this post. This is a bitter-sweet trade. If it goes down, I am definitely going to miss all three players that are going, but will be excited about the new players. There are a lot of parallels between this trade, and the Barkley trade (other than the approx. ten year age difference between the players at the time of their trades).

No matter which way you put it you are still an idiot who doesnt know what he is talking about. Example you said he hardly missed any games, you must have missed those 25 to 30 games a couple of years ago!:p

    Effort is not enough.

I am sad to see Steve go because of how hard he plays, and the spectacular moves he has. I am sure it's a wise decisions because of the way he runs the floor.

There's absolutely no contradiction there, and to pretend there is with those that are ultimately pleased Steve is leaving, is either stupid or disingenuous.

    Less turnovers.

Loved his effort and heart, hated his decision-making. Maybe he'll better in another system.

    Here here! :D

I like Steve, but the SOF's are just unbearable, annoyingly unreasonable. More irking than Steve's bad decision making. :p

Count me in on that one; a truly delusional group. I have no devotion to Steve Francis whatsoever. He made my last five years as a Rocket's fan almost unbearable. I have never been happier to see a player go, it is a dream come true. He has to be the most frustrating player in the league.

But just in case Orlando fans are reading the board; Francis can jump really high, and he is a great rebounder, plays with lots of emotion (like Racheed Wallace) and hustles with wild abandon. Best Wishes.

I would understand it more if Steve Francis was a real superstar who has led the team to greatness.

Steve Francis is not a great player. He has never been a great player.

Steve Francis is not Hakeem, Earl Campbell, Nolan Ryan, or even Moses Malone or Calvin Murphy.

He is one of many to wear the Rockets uniform who has been traded.

In this situation, he has been traded for a true superstar, a better player.

What Rockets fan would object when the team trades a tier 2 all-star for one of the top 5 players in the game who also happens to be 2 years younger.

Of course it's all about loyalty. You want loyalty? Go open up a mall kiosk and create a Matt Bullard shrine.

    POST ON ROCKETGUY3'S BEHALF

Looks like Clutch deleted the separate thread I made with no replies, no warnings, and in no time. A bit questionable... but here's what I said that you guys should here:

I have known RocketGuy3 (Pawan) for about 5 years now (he went to my high school and now attends UT Austin with me). He is apparently banned right now (I think)... strange considering his thread is still open, but he asked me to say something for him. I hope that's OK.

Here's what he said to post in an email:

    Several things:

    1. I am NOT speaking to fans who wish Steve the very best, will miss him, and never even really wanted to trade him but are willing to come to terms with this trade. That would include ME.

    2. I am NOT speaking to fans who always supported the trade, but still have respect for Steve, and just didn't feel he was the right fit. I don't agree with you, but I can respect your stance.

    3. I am NOT trying to change anybody's mind. I know that's not going to get me anywhere. You either disagree or you agree - maybe you just don't feel as strongly about it as me. I'm just maybe hoping to make a point and possibly open a few people's eyes.

    4. I AM talking to flat-out Steve Bashers, YOFs, people who just hate the guy blindly (like the guy - forenzi I think - that DARED to compare him to Karla Malone).

    5. I AM a Rockets fan, not JUST a Francis fan, though he is my favorite Rocket. I was a Rocket fan for 5 seasons before Francis came along. Get that Straight.

Incidentally, Tracy has for a long while been my FAVORITE non-Rocket (or former non-Rocket). And as some of you on the board may remember, I used to always say in my previous rants defending Steve that the ONLY way I would trade him was if we got either TMAC or KOBE in return. No exceptions. But honestly that was at least partly because I never thought it would happen, heh...

Still, the conditions of this trade aren't as favorable as I was hoping. Also, the things that have happened in the timeline of this trade - both in the league and on this board - have made me very, very upset. Steve had one disappointing season. One season where everyone truly expected more... It just isn't fair the heat he takes.

And on the TMac/Kobe issue, you sure as hell will NOT hear me say that "tired line" of TMac is no Kobe... because it's true! TMac is better ANY DAMN DAY OF THE WEEK. I love TMac. I despiiise Kobe.

    I just loathe Francis haters.

Also, he (and I for that matter) would like to know why he was banned, and for how long, especially considering "that b*stard, forenzi, wasn't banned for creating a thread blatantly flaming Steve in the LOWEST possible way".

I would also like to add that I know Pawan is in fact a die hard Rockets fan (you should see his room ). Has been the entire time I've known him. And yes, he likes TMac, he only started paying attention to the Magic after they acquired TMac. Everything he says about himself in that quote is true as far as I know. This trade, and people's reaction to it has just upset him a lot.

Don't shoot the messenger... or Pawan for that matter.

I always liked Steve Francis. I thought he had the potential to go down as the greatest point guard in the History of the Rockets. I always excused his mistakes because I understood they were his limitations and beyond his control. However, I don't care if after several days of having everybody tell him he's being unreasonable he's opened up to moving on to Orlando, I cannot help but be incredibly offended by the fact he dared say he didn't want to go there in the first place! He's barely into his max contract! When you're under a contract like that you give up your right to an opinion on things like that. You just pack your bags and move on like professionals do. He wasn't entitled to being involved in the process all along. Especially since I'm sure he was informed as soon as the Rockets understood it was a very serious possibility. He's paid to play basketball. He's paid money I cannot fathom to play basketball. The reality of the situation is there are very few people who could afford to say no to a job offer in Orlando if it meant making five or ten grand more a year. This guy is going to make 75 million dollars. SEVENTY-FIVE MILLION DOLLARS!?!?! And he can't go to Orlando with a smile on his face? How dare he?

I know it's unrelated, but we've got soldiers who go to Iraq for what? He can't go to Disneyworld?

And you know, it really isn't all that unrelated. Because I remember when they interviewed troops going over there, a great deal of them said "I'm just happy to serve my country."
Couldn't Steve have just said "I'm just happy to get to play basketball?"

Eventually, I'll probably forgive him and get back around to wishing him well, but for now, I think I'm entirely entitled to hate Steve Francis for daring to say he didn't want to go to Orlando, and I don't blame anybody who can't forgive him either.

I'm sure your friend would be unbanned were he to make a public statement somewhere along the lines of this:

"Oh, Clutch. Oh you are so big...so absolutely huge. Gosh, we're all real impressed down here, I can tell you. Forgive us, oh Clutch, for this, our dreadful toadying, and barefaced flattery. But you are so strong and, well, just super."
