No, no, no! There're not stupid turnovers, so they're alright. I refer you to my previous post :D

So, do you agree SF made number of silly mistakes yesterday and Kidd is a lot better passer and has more court leadership?

    This is just ridiculous.

NBA point-guards are going to have turnovers.

Especially guys like Steve and Kidd who handle the ball so much and are relied on to score by the team also. They will make more mistakes, since they control the play almost every time down the court.

Talk about his turnovers all you want, but take away Steve from this team and the Rockets are 0-12. Especially with that money-sucking backup PG we have.

That makes absolutely no sense. The 7'6 rookie center is going to teach Steve how to play PG?

The only black mark for Steve that night were the 8 TO's. Other than that, he had an outstanding game. I believe any objective person would say the same thing. Any other scrutiny would lead us to believe that you are clinically insane.

Just because Steve puts up monster statistics and he's the Rockets' best player doesn't mean there isn't room for criticism.

I don't think he's selfish, and he does look to pass often early in the game, BUT he's a long way from being a Jason Kidd or a John Stockton. He hasn't learned all the little things it takes to set up an offense properly. Ideally, I think we'd all like him to develop into that type of player.

Francis just needs to cut down his turnovers a little bit more, but I have seen his assists number go up. I think Francis has been the most consistent player on this team. The rest of his teammates needs to do the same. Please no more complaining about Francis after he scores 31 points, 10 assists, 8 steals, 8 turnovers( this you can complain a little ).

He did not take the pre-requiste class BasketBall101 Section1999. But Yao went to a basketball school in China and finished all the classes before he went to dunk a ball.

I agree that Francis is not as good a playmaker as Kidd, but then who is? I never said he was that leader. But guess what? Kidd isn't the leader that Magic Johnson was and isn't the passer he was. What does that mean? It means he's not the passer or the leader Johnson was. Big deal.

Leadership isn't something as easily quantifable by looking at turnovers like you did.

Of course you skipped over the fact that you were wrong in saying "I don't see these stupid turnovers from Kidd or GP". You were proven wrong and were called out on it, so now it's my turn :

So, do you agree that you were wrong in your statement?

... if not, your credibility is shot worse than it already has been.

What does any of this have to do with being a leader or not!?!?

One day Francis is the best thing since sliced bread and then the next according to many he is a horrible player and needs to learn how to do this or that.

Well this week I guess he needs to learn how to be a leader. Sheesh!

As it was said before if he wasn't here we would probably be like the Grizzlies and be 0-12 or something really close to it.

haha...i like the basketball school in china joke. i guess thats why china dominates in basketball and runs such a smooth offense with amazing point guard play. haha...anyhow...get off steve's butt. he is getting better with yao at center and its great to watch. if you didnt notice how the team flowed much better when steve had yao to goto then i dont know what you are watching.

the problem with the rockets is not steve, its the fact that we have too many players who would prefer to hold the ball for the whole shot clock rather than take a quick shot or a quick pass.

also how is yao, a 7'6 center, going to teach steve, a 6'3 PG, anything? maybe yao can teach steve a nasty crossover move or how to run the fast break better. actually yao might be better off if steve taught him some of his rebounding skills and how to jump higher than 5 inches.

finally...just look at how long it took gary payton and j kidd to develop into the players they are today. YEARS!!!! not just four years...steve will not develop into a j kidd type pg but hopefully a gary payton type one who can pass and score and maybe learn some defense :) so calm down about steve...he is doing great.

Steve Francis averages 6.2 assists per game. I mean even when his assists goes up to me it seems like he needs to get more assist to some of the consistant scorers on our team like Mobley.
I don't think he has been getting Mobley involved and thats Steve's job. I think Steve needs to work better with the other scorers on the team by passing them the ball at the right times.
He also needs to get Mo Taylor involved by making some good passes to get Mo involved and try toget Mo to be a consistant scorer on the team. Steve also needs to get Yao involved more to by passing to Yao at the right times. He needs to make the right decisions when he is splitting the defense. When Steve Francis drives he needs to have in his head whats he gonna do with the ball instead of sometimes getting cuaght in the air with the ball and no place to go with it,if he doesn't turn it over when he does that he will throw up a crazy shot. Maybe he needs better coaching.

I think the team needs to learn who their main scorers are and make it Steve's job to make sure they get involved that way they can be in a rhythem when it comes to their shooting and team chemistry. This is important to get the main scorers going becuase they are the ones who need to be hott during the 4th qaurter and crunch time. I think with all the players Steve gets different people involved during the game but when it comes to the fourth quarter these players don't come through. Players such as Eddie Griffin,Kenny Thomas and even Glen Rice. I say this becuase Glen Rice is a good 3 point shooter but if you don't set him a shot up he can't create and can go games without being a factor at all,<-yeah its good to get his 3 point shot going but just make sure you get your main scorers involved first and don't forget about them.<-The main scorers are the ones who are gonna be called on to come through and score in the clutch and the team needs to develop a chemistry during the clutch and its starts with Steve Francis and Rudy T.

Keep talking... with each post you and all of the other YAO MING fans (instead of ROCKETS fans) sound more and more ridiculous. Case and point... the drivel quoted above.

One question for ya' YAO35211: Who is the MAIN scorer (as you put it) for this team? You know, that main scorer that you want Steve to set-up? Yeah the scorer that you want to have the ball in the fourth quarter?

Before you answer, here's a hint... his nickname is the FRANCHISE.

that was one big b****slap from DoD.

this game did not come down to steve francis' leadership ability. he put us into position to win only to see it go through moochie's hands. in fact not one loss can be attributed to a steve francis pg deficiency. 4 free throws by cuttino and moochie and the rockets sit at 9-3.

what exactly is he not doing that would give the rockets a better chance to win? who do you want? andre miller, who can't carry a team to save his life. you think the clippers rally around him when the time is crucial? why are there so many late clipper collapses this year, i mean andre is undeniably a top pure-pg, can't he keep them in line? why do his teams continue to get worse year after year? it's not his fault but it must say something. leadership absolutely comes down to more than assists and turnovers. yes 8 is unacceptable but it happens to the best and looking at kidd quite often in fact.

steve is one AMAZING pg. that's right, amazing. his decsion-making is still a work in progress but last i checked players don't reach their prime in their 4th season. he is certainly showing signs of a great one.

Why you guys confuse Leadership with High stats? If you watched Argentina play at World Cup, you would say Ginobili is the leader of their team. Was he the leading scorer or highest stats holder? A leader is not necessary a leading scorer or highest stats holder for his team. Do not make an analgy between MJ and Steve. First, I doubt Steve can become into MJ type player. Second, why did you overlook many other players? For example, John Stockton. A leader should be someone who design how to lay out offense and defense. Like in scoor, a leader usually is at Middle Field bedause He is the Master Schemer around whom all plays run. That is why it rarely comes for the best scorer to become the Leader on that team. Zadan is the leader of Franch scoor team, is he the leading scorer? No. PG is the same thing. Steve is an amazing offensive player. He makes lot of sparks for the team at times. However, his playing hurts the team invisablly. You argue the rockets would look urgly without him scoring, rebounding and stealing so much. You argument based on the preassumption that other players keep play the same way or at same level. Think about this, what if with a decent point guard, all other player feel more comfortable and play at better lever. This more than just negating steve's individual offensive impact. Therefore, steve does not fit this team if he remains as PG. I became rocket fan because I am Chinese and love Yao. I made my comment based on what I saw so far. I want Yao and rockets win! You can argue or even disgree because I appear to be less patient or even have little faith in Steve's improvement or learning. If so, I could say nothing else. I just know it is so hard to break bad habit, that is why i doubt steve's learning remaing as PG. If you do not tolerate me for my less patience or faith in steve, think about what some of you did when Yao did poorly in the first couple of games. I am sure some of fans showed less patience which is understandable. We all want win, and better win now! However, Yao's incrediable improvement shut them up. Unless Steve shows me incredable learning improvement like Yao did, I am still pissed off at His playing at PG.

    Translation:

    scoor = soccer
    Middle Field = midfield
    Zadan = Zinedine Zidane

    this post = rubbish

I have the utmost respect for your opinion and we can agree to disagree.

Steve is the leader of this team ..period.

Stats do not tell the whole story. Steve is the new breed of PGs coming into the league. He can do it all, rebound, assists, steals, and of course score. Steve is , quite frankly, unstoppable one-on-one, much like MJ. When MJ was in the game, he operated as a PG and directed the offense. When the game was on the line, he took over and used his scoring ability to win games.

Steve is very capable in that regard.

He finally has a team around him that is full of talent. He has a front court that he has never had until THIS year. He is trying to elevate his game and help the team win. He has said more than once that he trade scoring for wins anyday. It just so happens that when he does not score.....we lose.

    Huh???

People have said it before and I'll retirate. Nobody claims Steve is the leader of this team because of his stats only. Who is the player that took Ming under his wing and spends time with him off the court and drives him to practice and games? Who is the Player that sets the example by practicing harder than anybody else during and between seasons? He goes out and solicits advise from guys like West and Jordan. And he leads by example in games. How does he do that? By playing hard all the time. One of the worst things for a team to do is to play with no energy, Francis makes sure everybody is going full speed during games and not just through the motions. By the way, you said that stats don't make a leader, so what makes Ming a leader? Everybody who is talking him up has said that he is the better scorer and the better passer, aren't those "just stats?" I never saw ming play for the sharks so I don't know how he functioned as a leader, but he seems to complacent and quiet to be the kind of rah rah leader type. So wouldn't that mean his only leadership qualities come from his ability to put up stats?
