I would say some of that lost weight is muscle, especially after Steve said recently he's been lifting weights only "here and there." Since I moved over a year ago (and my wife came to town ) I went from 183 to 171 and that was not fat I lost, I promise you. My strength went down in the gym from getting off my routine and eating less. I'm positive he's lost some strength. Maybe the weight loss is good for his quickness, flexibility and all, but I'm just saying . . . losing weight is not necessarily pure gold.
The only good thing about it is he lost any excess fat he had last year. Last year he came in with more fat than he's ever had in his career. Technically its also less pounding on his legs, but i dont think that's what he was going for. He's not even cleared to scrimmage yet, so i'm assuming he's not able to do much weight training either. He was probably advised to watch his calories so he wouldn't balloon while he recuperated and his muscles shrank as well from not lifting much in months. And the injury he had was a quadricep injury. Which pretty much cancels out any type of leg work (lunges, squats, extensions, etc.) A lot of upper body exercises also require the legs to stabilize the movement so those would be difficult to do also. Like mentioned earlier, he probably just did a lot of aquatic cardio, since running or even riding the bicycle might cause his leg to flare up.
his face looks thinner, but last yr he wasnt fat, he had the six pack still, maybe hes more cut,but ya steve looks good, hope he does well
Francis can be a great rotation player for this team. He is aggressive and as was pointed out drives to the basket. He is no longer expected to be the franchise player and I think there is too much maturity on this team to let him get away with the ballhogging of the past. He can be an important contributor with the second unit as he has starters skills. If only the knee holds up?
You can be in the best shape of your life, but it doesn't mean jack if you've got a bum knee. I hope Steve's can hold up.
If you look at his rookie photos, he's got a very similar body to that right now, however He had huge calf muscles back then (and always), but those are probably gone now too.
I'm with you batkins. Maybe it's a bit naive, but I think Steve can be a huge positive for us off the bench this year.
This thread reminds me of the "We Want Steve" chants last season. Hope he can contribute this year. The fans would really like to see that, though the local media would hate it.
