Absolutely, because it has moneyball written all over it: Find players who are undervalued in the current market. The guy's name isn't Daryl Moron -- he knew exactly what he was getting: a player whose best days are behind him but who, if healthy, can make a major contribution to a team looking to win it all now. My GUESS is that Morey talked to Francis, his agent, and his doctors and was told Stevie had been resting that knee and that it was feeling pretty good. Staying off the knee, though, got him out of shape and eventually made the tendon tear worse when Chubby Steve tried to play at game speed. At that point, the only option was surgery. To put it another way: Morey was convinced at the time that Steve could contribute in at LEAST a backup role. You, on the other hand, know for a fact that he was already washed up. Now I obviously don't know you personally, Rover16, but who would you expect us to believe, you or Daryl Morey? If Francis' surgery allows him to play pain-free, even if it doesn't magically restore all his hops, he's an easy choice to make the rotation ahead of Brooks and Head, who have basically shown little so far in their careers.
I was already optimistic about Francis comeback, but after seeing this new photos I know he can make a big comeback and be an imortant element of rockets championchip team ( maybe i'm to optimisstic, but what the hell i'm really pumped up now).
I'm hoping that Steve Francis pushes Raefer Alston for the Starting poing guard. Last season, Francis came in out of shape. He had knee problems. And he had problems with the offense. The Coach Rick Adleman before the begining of the season had made a bold prediction that Francis would be his starting point guard. This season, Steve knows what to expect. He has had his knee fixed. Steve is coming in shape. I think it's a long shot for Steve to win the point guard starting nod after Raefer was to vital in the 22 game win streak. But, Francis is still an all-star in his mentality. He's had a run of bad luck. Wow, a bench of: Francis - 75% return to All-star self Barry - and his 40% 3pt shooting Battier - and his tough defense and 40% 3pt shooting Landry - and his fierce dunks and Karl Malone impressions And the bench warmers of: Brooks - Needs to find his game Head - can still shoot 40% from 3pt Mutumbo - Can still play effectively in limited minutes Dorsey - A lot of tough talk about enforcer Hayes - a tough defender Harris - Hustles like heck It appears on paper this team will be good!
This board seems to have the huge misconception that Francis' biggest hurdle last year was being out of shape or having injuries, when actually, it was his lack of ability to grasp the offense. in case you all forgot, during training camp there were numerous reports that Francis was having the hardest time grasping the offense, and it became evident whenever he was on the court. next season he's still going to have the same problems.
What? Rick's offense involves MOVEMENT. And in the NBA, the quicker your movements are, the better. When you have an injured quadriceps (70% torned) and you are out of shape, there is no way you can compete. Hell, Rick was PRAISING Luther on how hard he cuts off the ball. I love Luther, and I don't want to trade him. But... he didn't live up to my expectation last year or Rick's.
All i know is I've seen Steve several times in the last week or so, at his yacht party in kemah.BTW.(it was off the chain, the casino yacht was the truth), and at a social event downtown with the singer robin thicke. Steve is excited about the season, and is ready to return back to form. I got faith in my boy. I feel like if Adelman gives him a chance he will shine. The question is will Adelman give him a chance
he's just not used to, nor meant to play off the ball. That's his problem. I don't think it should be that hard to pick up if you got the skils
Give me a break. we have Ron Artest and if we can forgive him for his past transgression, I think we can forgive Steve.
I think Steve is a humbled player who isn't the same mentally or physically as he once was. He'll adjust - last year was his first exposure to the offense, this year he'll be far better prepared. You'll see improvements both in mental and physical ability. Now - the funny thing is people saying Steve won't even crack the rotation. news for you people, Steve is going to compete with Rafer for PT, not Brooks.
100% agree...... Everyone should be rooting for him, anything that makes the team better is good with me. DD
Damn right. As Rocket fans we are not supposed to put down Steve,we are supposed to believe in him no matter how "unrealistic" the chances of him being a big contributor are.
Thanks for all the Steve love! Rover16, I looks like your out numbered, there's more Steve love than you thought. Sometimes it's better to just stop and listen, than just talking for the sake of talking, your learn more.
Damn straight, Stevie is family. If you're a hater you might as well move to Dallas and root for the Mavs.
If Stevie can get good enough to be a decent starting pg, rafer would be a great backup pg and brooks a perfect 3rd string pg. If Stevie can't prove to be good enough to be starter, at least rafer will get the pressure to play his best like last season.
Huh? I've never said I wasn't outnumbered cause I know there a ton of stevie lovers here. I'm just doing them a public service by telling them the truth because anyone living in such a dreamworld where they think steve still has game is just not facing reality. I just want the rockets to win and francis is detrimental to winning and it's just selfish people who are still holding on to their old francis memories that don't care about winning.
