The games he that he started for Alston (while rafer was injured, sitting out games) that he played last year was a question mark. No one knows? -was he trying to fit into the system? (which lead him to be more passive and take less shots? and "try" to play with in the team system?) or -was obviously in pain (heard he tore 70% of his ligament?) and tried to do less things on the court to stay on? so that means this coming year might be the answer, if hes injured again theres no excuse for this year and the rockets cant wait for him, hes probably going to be traded or not resigned if it happens. or he might turn out to be a good backup (possibly a starter but unlikely) 5ppg 5apg 5rpg as a backup? i would sure love the 5-5-5 deal
Folks, these numbers aren't based on much. Sorry to say that. He's only averaged better than 5 assists and or 5 rebounds when he averaged more than 37 minutes per game. The last time that happened was five seasons ago. If he gets playing time this year, which I'd put in the improbable category, the best you could hope for would be 10-12 minutes; scaling for his career averages, which include him at top athleticism, that would mean: 6 ppg, 2 rpg, 2 apg, 1+ topg.
im saying that he will average that much but its possible. he DID changed his game up alittle and anything can happen it can happen. but unlikely. that was just one of my wishes. the point of the post i posted was how will he turn out and what was the reason he did horrible during the stretch rafer was injured.
I don't think anyone really expects more than that. That is all we can really ask of a back up. I think he could play a little more than that and I believe with his diminished athleticism, your scaling is fair (he will play against bench players and numbers inflate in PER, ect). A 6 2 2 player is exactly what Head or Jackson were giving. He is to hoping that Francis has more over achieving ability (Head against GS, Jackson double pump three) that could push the second unit. Last year in 19 minutes, Head gave us 7 2 2. These are not only realistic projections but projections we as Rocket fans should embrace. Jackson gave us 8 3 2 on .412 shooting. If Francis (who can realistically eat those minutes) can do 6 2 2 with less floor time, that is great for us. Remember that Alston increases eff. with less playing time. That means the more options we have at the one to spell Alston, the better. We are pretty deep. We just need a big. Yao 33 Dorsey 15 Scola 28 Landry 20 Artest 30 Battier 18 Tmac 33 Barry 15 Alston 32 Francis 16 That is a generous ten man rotation. I could see Scola and Landry alternating in at the 5 (maybe even Hayes) thus taking some of Dorsey's minutes. I can also see Battier and Artest taking some 2 time to guard opposing players and eat up Barry's time. Head can also take some of Francis or Alston's minutes. I see Adelman running a tight ship with at max a ten man rotation.

That also was 3 basketball seasons ago, not 5. You see in bold what he averaged 4 and 5 seasons ago. Supposedly, his injury actually happened when he was traded to NY that season that you refer to, and as you can see he only played in 44 games the season after that, and less than 10 games for us the following year; which was last year with us. I am not sure about exactly when his injury occured though.
Grant hill was one of the most skilled point forwards of alltime. what are you talking about?. unlike francis he never relied on atheletic ability to get by. what you just said is unintelligent.kenyon martyn has never been the same. and amare was a atheletic freak. hence he still has some of he's ability left. plus he's a big man. way different situation.
Well said..just correcting the video you had up with the video that really summed up the little he played this past year...playing on a bad quad, you got these type of results..imagine a Steve with no knee problems holding him back. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/e2Sx2QlDqao&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/e2Sx2QlDqao&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
knocking on retirements door or not those youtube clips still put a smile on my face.. Prove us wrong Stevie!
I was very unhappy when he couldn't play because of his injuries, but what really disappointed me was the unfit state that he came into camp. I didn't expect that from a gym rat like him.
SF3 deserves one more shot. I hope his injuries are cured and he is still in is prime. This Rocket's squad that is taking shape will be one of the most talented Rocket's team.
You must not understand sarcasm and you missed the point. Grant Hill was super athletic and a prolific dunker, everybody thought Kenyon was done and he came back to the league to atleast contribute to the Nuggets. and Amare came back from knee surgery as one of the best big men in the league. The point is they came back from surgery to be at the very least contributing starters, them playing different positions makes no difference. And don't call me unintelligent if you don;t even know the difference between "he's" and "his" and cant spell athletic.
I will say one thing, if Steve does not come back it will be entirely HIS fault. I mean he has a 2nd year undersized PG/SG and a guy who can't shoot 40% ahead of him.......if he can't beat one of them out, then it will be telling. This is all on Steve. Time will tell. DD
IMO Steve's heart is willing but his body is not. I was hoping for a SF3 revival, but in my heart of hearts I believe Les acquired Steve so he could retire as a Rocket. My hunch is that we will see SF3 retiring on a medical disability by the start of the season.
Whoa thumbs..you make it seem like Francis is as tore up and beaten as Bobby Sura was when it isn't anywhere near that bad. This is Francis' first real serious injury in his career, all those other years he's gutted it out played through injuries. This quad/knee problem was a sign that he isn't superman anymore and actually needed to have surgery. Surgery actually helps people ya know? It helped Amare who people were saying that he was through because he played unlike his usual explosive self back from injury but now he's back to normal, same with Hill and others who have made comebacks from leg injuries. By the logic that Francis is finished cause of an injury that required surgery, you could say the same for Yao Ming who broke his foot and needed surgery. And I'm pretty sure that he'll play back into his usual groove. So chill with that nonsense.
