i second to this. yao used to take 3 pointers in cba, for a center, he is a descent shooter. his defender will never expect him to do so.

GOOD POST, choujie! The pic can certainly shut those "Steve-has-no-choice" guys up. The team problem is so obvious. Steve still thinks this is HIS team, but he fails to carry the team over and over again.

Barkley, Collins and Fratello know alot about losing
Hell, Kenny took the same shot to win against the Magic

    The point being -
If their was a brainfart on this play
it was team wide . .. . from Coach to PG to everyone

I feel you dog...You think that's weird? Try this one on for size: There are still folks on this board bleeding over Eddie Griffin. THAT'S what left me scratching MY head.

An NBA basketball court is 50 feet wide. There are 22 feet from the center of the court to the nearest arc...where Jim Jackson was standing. The FT lane is 16 feet wide meaning there is 8' of FT area on each side of the basket. Manu Ginobili (as the picture evidences) was clearly closer to the FT lane than to Jackson.

Even if Ginobili where halfway from the lane to the arc (he clearly was not), the absolute closest Ginobili could have been to Jackson was 7 FEET.

Doug Collins, Mike Fratello, Magic Johnson, Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley all say get the 2 points and foul the 2nd worst FT shooting team in NBA history. It would be hard to get 3 of the 5 to agree on anything yet they were unanomous on this.

But you'd rather have Francis juke a decent defender with a 7" height advantage to try to tie the game. If Francis has any advantage over Horry, it's footspeed. If you're smart (which Francis isn't) you take the sure 2 and foul.

    A lot about losing?

Collins as a coach is a lifetime 332-287. Remove the horrid Jordan/Wizards debacle and Collins is 258-197 (56.7%). That's not a lot of losing.

Fratello is a 572-465 (55.2%). He was the last coach to take the Cavs to the playoffs.. He did that in 4 of 6 seasons in Cleveand.

Barkley during his career has played over 4,800 playoff minutes.

Kenny Smith and Magic have rings.

    If you're looking for a brainfart, he's #3 in a Houston uniform...when he's wearing it.

It's amazing on those extemely rare quarter ending plays where Francis actual passes the ball, how few brainfarts there are. A teammates dilemma...do I stand here or do I move and risk getting in his way since I know he's not going to pass.

You, farhan007 and Steve Francis all need to realize Francis is not and never will be Micheal Jordan.

Sorry if this was already posted here, it was already in the other "last-shot" thread.
    From the Chronicle:

    Rockets summary
    Van Gundy: My bad
One day after his team lost to the Spurs on Monday, coach Jeff Van Gundy was still bothered by the Rockets' final play. The team had no timeouts and trailed by three points with 15.5 seconds to go. Steve Francis dribbled out the clock and tried to shake off Robert Horry. His attempts failed, and his last-second shot missed terribly.

Francis took the brunt of the blame for the loss after the game, but Van Gundy said Tuesday it was all his fault.

"I let our team down," Van Gundy said. "That was terrible. Bad, bad. We didn't get a good shot. It's my job to get us a better shot. I left Steve stranded out there on an island. We'll do better next time."

The Rockets had no timeouts left, but Van Gundy said that makes no difference.

"You should be able to generate for your team a much better opportunity," he said.

Francis said he wasn't surprised by Van Gundy's comments.

"That just shows you what type of coach he is," Francis said. "That just shows you how much he cares about us as a group. That's just a coach sticking up for his players. That's what you need to become a good team."

Steve Francis makes maximum money and so I understand he wants to take that last shot. And the ball has been in his hands at the end of most games, so he's given the opportunity to prove himself.

But unless your point guard's name is Jason Kidd, I guess having your PG as the team's franchise player is an iffy situation.

I remember when Vince Carter passed off the game's last shot, trying to hit someone underneath the basket (I think Keon Clark; this has been a couple years now) and the TNT commentators (Barkley, The Jet) brought major smackdown on the "gutless" play: You always want the ball in your hands when you're the team's best player.

Thing is, our franchise player isn't getting it done. He is proving himself next to uncoachable. I wish him well at his next stop, whatever it might be. I say it without anger....now. If he´s still here by the time next season rolls around, and Denver and Seattle have improved (and Portland is now back on the radar), well, that'll be another story.
