In fact, it seems as though many of you are angry mostly because he didn't take the opportunity to put Yao on a pedestal for no reason. Nothing he said about Yao wasn't true. Yao really hasn't earned the kind of praise it seems like you guys are looking for. Not after the way he closed the season/playoffs... Yeah, maybe his leg wasn't full strength yet, but regardless. Stop assuming the worst about the things he said. Just because he made a misworded comment about how he and Tracy have both been high scorers on unsuccessful teams doesn't mean he believes he will play the same role as McGrady. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a very talented role player clearly distinguish himself as inferior to the franchise player(s) on the team. (I'm sure someone will think of something... but it doesn't happen often...)
Why is everyone bashing the franchise? He dribbles too much, has an ego, so what! T-mac takes alot of bad shots at the wrong time and we still love him and his back problems.Yao loses the ball at bad times and gets tired against teams who run and we still love him to! When the back problems occur and we need a scorer, franchise is there. When Yao gets the ball down low and misses the lay up, stevie will punch it in for us if he gets close enough & provide that energy we need. So there's your extra shots, dunks and energy so you don't have to say why didn't he dunk it, or now's whose gonna score! By someone who might even be our best rebounder and finisher! And when we have the lead & need to waste time stevie can handle that too.
half of you guys are reading bad interpretations of what Stevie said and getting all bent out of shape... he never said he won a scoring title nor did he put down Yao in any way... he said he arrived to be an enforcer and a dog in Yao's ear. He joked with Rome who used his career as a past tense, as in "you were once a superstar" and francis took the hit and made a joke out of it. it was humble. he basically said "dont count me down yet, I'm still here and on the way up" is anyone going to share this interview so we can actually hear it?
I heard the interview... I'm pretty sure right at the end when the shot clock was running down he dribbled the ball off his foot and it rolled out of bounds. ^^^^^That was a joke^^^^^
I'm not exactly looking for praise. I'm looking for some sort of indication that SF is willing to defer to Yao and McGrady. If he doesn't, their games suffer, and there will be chemistry issues if Yao and McGrady get pissed that they aren't getting the ball enough. He certainly didn't show that in this interview. If Yao doesn't get the ball regularly fed to him, he'll end up like Zydrunas Ilgauskas, and we know he's already progressed beyond that, so it would be a tremendous waste. Would you stop feeding McGrady when he's shooting poorly? No, so why not give Yao the same respect?
^^^^ the only thing is, if you didnt hear the interview, you didnt hear steve say how important it was to get the ball into Yao "7 or 8" times a quarter
Actually, now we can stop giving t-mac the ball when he shoots poorly because we have more people who can score more consistantly(mj & sf) Yao's game will come according to who we play, he thrives on some teams and struggles against others. Just be glad we finally have quality depth.
He swears that's not the case. My son plays AAU basketball and there was two guys on a team he played that had fuzz on their chins and were both 6'2". This was in a 12 and under division. Yeah they were 12..... I guess if they make it to the big time eventually, they have to live with the lie.....then they get on the radio and forget their "official" age....
I'll have you know it was saying I was older than I was before my actual birthday Plus I look younger than my age, I'm allowed to cheat a bit!
With T-Mac, Yao & even Battier being either laid back or not too vocal leaders, this team needs more players with heart/passion that shows. That is what I like about the acquisition of Stevie, Scola & Mike James. There's no question about Stevie's heart & talent. The question is about his IQ. Dribbling the ball for 23 seconds and then turning it over on the last second isn't actually a sign of basketball intelligence. I think this will be addressed if he plays within Adelman's system which involves a lot of passing. Another possible problem would be his ego. I don't remember him leading the league in scoring... ever. Comparing himself to T-Mac in that interview I think was thinking too highly of himself. T-Mac lead the league in scoring twice & Stevie never did. I just hope he can be content with being the third option behind T-Mac & Yao. If not, Adelman can always bench him. The good thing about Stevie's acquisition is that he came cheap. It's low risk, high reward which is good for the rockets.
You gys are still knocking on steve for keeping the ball to long. No, its not smart basketball, but who else on those rocket teams was he gonna pass to? Mo Taylor? Moochie Norris? Pig Miller? He had a ton of crappy players around him. He and cat are the only players that are still in the league for Steve's first few years on the rockets.
I didnt hear the interview, is it possible that Steve said him and Tmac have led their TEAM in scoring? Maybe thats what he meant to say?
i did hear the interview and that is not what he said. he said led the LEAGUE in scoring or SCORING TITLE or something that implies league-wide. trade steve-o!
