Me think SF3 should talk more Yao and his dominant on known world of basketball. Yao should be more dominant than SF3. He will happy time him. yay.
the interviews are up on Jim's website http://www.jimrome.com/home/audio_archive_list/basketball/steve9.html a bunch of photos of Jim and Steve in the 610 studio you have to be a member to gain access to the interview... does anyone know if this costs anything? here is the recap of the session with Stevie, they talk about the info that I brought up on my call with Jim and Stevie!
Ouch. And I thought Yao and SF3 were tight. Perhaps he is talking about his experience playing with Yao before he was traded to Orlando, where clearly Yao deferred to SF3 (they don't call SF "Lao Da" in China for no reason, Yao called him that). Perhaps with a few practices SF will notice a change in Yao, and adjust his attitude accordingly. I hope that's what happens. But if he still thinks he's the Franchise and plays like he did the first time around.... this season won't be pretty at all.
I agree. Good call in acrossthestreaat. Unfortunately there was no depth to the response at all. Just "Bonzi Wells is a pro" I am happy to be back. Rome bringing out the human stories can be entertaining (stories like Elk talking about John Daly are great), but he has always been a total lightweight in terms of sports analysis, insight and depth. He is an extra kiss ass now too.
Sounds like Stevie has not changed one bit. 1. He is still the Franchise in his own mind 2. He downplayed Yao's dominance. He should be riding Yao's jock and he still talks about as if Yao is a rookie. 3. And nobody mentioned his joke about him needing 4 basketballs (to get off enough shots in a game) I'm getting the feeling he thinks he is back as at least an equal to Yao and Tmac. Hell, even lumped himself in with Tmac a few times "yeah, me and Tracy have already won scoring titles and all that" Really, what year did you win that scoring title, Franchise? I'm still glad to have the guy back but I see some bumps in the road.
Dunno how he see's himself as a role player but with this team, there aren't enough minutes or shots to go around.
If that happens, he'll be benched. Then moved. This is not 2002 and he's not our Franchise, making max money. Hell, he's not even our only scoring point. There's no point in worrying about how Francis will adjust. I personally believe he'll be fine but if he's not - nothing lost. Plug in Mike James and move along.
You all are taking his comment all wrong! He did say he is still the Franchise, but he meant it that he can still be a significant contributor to the team, not a scrub. And he will!
Great to have Steve aboard, I love his confidence and I am Confident that our third scorer has arrived...
Yeah, I don't think he meant to diss Yao or anything, but Rome was pretty much lobbing him a softball to give him a chance to comment on Yao's improvement. Instead of taking that opportunity, he portrays himself as a savior of sorts. My personal feeling is that he came back here because he had his best years here, and he hopes to replicate those performances and numbers. That can be a good thing, but with his propensity to dominate the ball, i find that a little troubling. I also worry about how he'll take it if he loses minutes to another guard.
He still has a ego. He will be on the bench if he isn't going to move the basketball and blend into the team. Adleman won't telerate him dribbling the basketball unnecessarily and stalling the offense. He's in for a rude awakening if doesn't learn to change his frame of mind when it comes to the TEAM.
Thing is, Steve was there to see Yao absoloutely destroy Eddie Curry a couple of times last season. He must have taken notice then.
Actually, as an ex-athlete myself, if you don't believe in yourself. If you don't think you're the shizznitz, you ain't ever gonna be anything. You gotta have that belief that you can win no matter what. You gotta believe you can go out there and stuff your opponent and when game time comes around...let the dice fall where they may. I don't fault Stevie to think he's all that and a box of chips. In fact, I'd be dissappointed if Stevie came back and said ya I lost a step here and there. My job is to defer to Yao and T-Mac. I"m more a passing guard now. When game time comes, let the coach decide. Let the game decide. That's what's going on in Francis's head right now. He's gotta get that winner mindset going. Then he's gotta back that up by working his butt off in the gym and being in the best shape of his life in order to beat out the rest of the guards for that starting role. Then he's gotta play smart. So kudo's to Stevie-O! Think like a champion. Be a champion!
