LOL!!!! Right! Except that Hakeem was NOTORIOUS as "Akeem" for being the biggest partier on the UH campus. When he came into the NBA, he was an elbow-throwin', smack-talkin', hard-partyin' young man. There are some that, to this day, still think he faked an injury just to get a bigger contract. It took him nearly ten years and conversion to Islam to begin the process of maturity. I always find it amusing how people either conveniently forget or simply ignore the fact that Hakeem was not the saint everyone would like to make him out to be. That doesn't make him any less great. But, he certainly had his youthful excesses. Yet, he still managed to be the greatest athlete Houston has ever known and a truly honorable person.
Wow, some of these posts are ridiculous. Thanks for being reasonable Jeff. All these people have no idea what any of the players are doing and jump to conclusions so quickly. Just because Kobe has cute little ads showing how hard he works, and the lakers PR get some articles written doesn't mean many, many other NBA players do not work as hard. That's not taking away from Kobe, but some of you all think you know what's going on and don't. I'm glad you can also judge someone's character, by their hobbies and interests.
Thank you Jeff. The maturation process is different for everyone. Some of you act like you were mature the moment you hit 20. And somehow I don't think being mega rich, playing professional basketball and gaining tons of fans will speed up the process.
okay maybe I didn't emphasize my point... what i'm trying to say is that at this critical point, maybe Steve might want to put hobbies on the back burner... JUST FOR NOW!!! i'm not saying he shouldn't have hobbies and should be playing ball 24/7/365. The only reason i'm calling this a critical time is because we just had a coaching change, and haven't made it to the playoff since Steve's arrival (not Steve's fault!!!!) I understand Kobe's work ethic is magnified by the LA media, but that is a good way too lead! Let your teammates know you are giving it your all! I'm sorry if I made it seem as if he should be a slave to the game, but that wasn't the case. Those of you who work or who are in school and serious about what you do know that when it comes down to it, aside from family, you have the ability to push your hobbies to the side and get the job done! is Steve Francis getting the job done? That's up to every individual's own point of view. Can Steve be the best PG in the league? YES Is he? Can Steve be the MVP? YES Can he lead us to the playoffs and a NBA title? YES Maybe I have set my expectations too high, but I think w/ Steve, Yao, and Cat we have the essntials to COMPETE for an NBA title, and we are just a few intricate supporting cast players away from achieving that goal.
I don't disagree with you on this. However, assuming Steve is working out over the summer, his record label and/or any other endeavor is irrelevant. Yao Ming spent several weeks organizing and working a SARS telethon. Was he shirking his workouts? Shouldn't he be called out for that too? Of course he shouldn't because it is called having a life. Steve is a gym rat. Oftentimes, the Rockets training staff has to tell him to back off the weight lifting and heavy workout regimen so he doesn't overdo it. He has been like this since he was a rookie. Yao is the same way. I'm glad Steve is doing something productive with his off time. I hope he's successful. Of course, it is the music business, so I'm not holding my breath.
What are you basing Steve's pure indulgence of excess on? Because he tries a business venture? I remember an interview with him, where he said that at first he was spending like crazy but just recently he moved to a smaller home, and was being careful about the things he spent on. The guy is supporting his sister, and plans to send her to college, and bought her a computer for school, I know. I believe the other things he has, he can afford. What lifestyle do you see Steve living?
I'm happy for the Franchise. I hope that he does well in the music business. To the post that said you don't agree with the way hes' living; hell post something that you don't exactly agree with. It sounds like you just don't like him as a person, please prove me wrong.
there's nothing wrong with Steve doing something other than basketball, quit making a big deal out of nothing.
Yeah, good luck to Steve on his record label. I'm glad most of you have enough sense not to pull that "shouldn't he be working on his game all summer..." act. And I noticed some of you mentioning Kobe's CD. Have any of you heard it yet? I got it a few years back and WOW does it suck!
Yeah, we all know Kobe can't rap worth ****.....but look at the improvement in his game over the years. Maybe if Stevie had shown something......anything.....I wouldn't be complaining, but he HASN'T.
Uh... sports ARE entertainment... But you sure as hell wouldn't know that by looking at some of those posts on this board. Some of you guys take the NBA and the Rockets and the game of basketball WAAAY too seriously. Let Stevie have some fun. He's making money, he damn well better spend it and pump it back into our economy It's not like Stevie's some kinda thug or something... some of you need to shake your stereotypical image of him.
Do your thing Stevie. These hating sissy's are gonna hate on you no matter what you do. They knock you as if your not the strongest link on this team. Steve needs to improve, which he has done each year. But the other playrs need to improve much more than he does. He's our star I don't hear any Suns fans dissing on Marbury. Get off his back it's his life ya'll should find one for yourself.
Francis' choice of his record label name is definitely troubling. I hope that there is a good explanation for it. ISOh? Hmmm......
I think its highly commendable that Steve Francis is being so enterprising! Especially in the offseason, its good to be expanding the mind in persuits, which are part of the recovery period from Basketball stress. Its feels like its something that he wanted to do and he should!
Yetti complimenting Steve.........actually I find Yetti to be fairly impartial (though very demanding) of the Rox. Still I find it a little shocking, unless its said with satire (I can't detect it).
I guess Im the only one who takes this thread as an insult to being a rocket fan. Millions of $$ and yet instead of helping needy or homeless or starving,he decides whats most important in life is record label. Yeh,Steve is a great role model and a class act. Im proud to be a rocket fan with Steve on board. If any of you posters were actually homeless at one point you would know what Im talking about. Guess Im the unlucky one.
It's called investing your money. Any successful business man would invest money into something so it would grow.
