Darn you lil for bringing this up ;)

Why wouldn't Gov in TW allow me to travel there? I'd love to eat there. Speaking to "eat drink man woman", what happened to that actress?

Hmmm, big Mac or tuna sanwich? :(

hey hasn't the taiwanese govt opened up tourism to chinese people? (it was big news, even made cnn)
Just this past year i think. except there's a quota i think... not entirely sure.

it ain't cheap i tell ya. i can't afford half these places...
but if you ever visit Taiwan, definitely go for:
    1) some hearty shan-dong beef noodles
    2) some juicy beef-stuffed crispy pancakes
    3) some steaming soup dumplings

those are what i miss most... not the fancy-pansy banquets, but the good ol' road-side food stands with quality food for real people...

Same with American food. I miss a good ol' In-N-Out Double-Double (finest burger franchise in the west) and a nice 2-pound burrito far more than the likes of Morton's or Legal Seafoods...

We should get yao ming to take the Rockets there (i know that Vince Carter visited Taipei right after he went to Shanghai). After Yao orders some tasty dishes for them, i'm sure stevie and co. are gonna be all cool with him...

All three actresses from Eat Drink are still around I think (they're just 10 years older...) but recently the big actresses have all been either from the new generation and/or from China.

somehow, i just get the feeling that with Yao on the team, we're gonna see the Rockets frequent Houston's Chinese eateries a lot more...

    I understand your point.

But my suggestion was to edit one's OWN post, not "sensor" others' posts, not editing others' words. Maybe I didn't make my intention clear.

For my own posts, I can and will sugar coat them anytime anyway I want.

I think Clutch disabled the delete function because some "people" would post a personal insult to another poster, use really bad language, or something similar (or both) and then delete it a few minutes later. There IS an edit function. Use that if you want. But if you think anything gets past the admins, dream on.

    (completely off-topic)

Lil, I'm from Houston, but just arrived in Taipei last month. I'd love to ½Ð±Ð §A about good places to eat in Taipei. Since your e-mail's not available, I'd appreciate it if you could e-mail me from my profile.

i love it. Francis is calling out his team mates, thats what leaders do , they don't sit there and act like jason kidd after the finals. And fravis and ming seem to be on the samw page the will be the new potent duo of the rockects. No more francis and mobley. Looks like Francis and Ming.

think you disabled the email function.

restaurant selection really depends on which city you're living in and what your anticipated budget is and what you like personally (spicy? exotic? delicacies? dim sum? feast? etc.) If you're working, definitely ask your co-workers. nothing gets the taiwanese people more excited than good food...

but if you're touring Taiwan, food is everything. (nothing else really spectacular about the country in terms of sights or scenery, especially if you've traveled around the States already)... oh and the Palace Museum, definitely worth a couple of days if you're into that stuff...

    here's the online gourmet ranking:
    http://www.gourmetnet.com.tw/rest/bestchinese.php?r=1

a couple of suggestions you should definitely try regardless of budget (these are top of their league, widely renowned, and damn cheap!):
(just ask around for these places)

¹©®õÂ× Soup Dumplings - worth the 1-2 hour wait
Green Leaf (Ching1-Yeh4) À\ÆU Taiwanese cuisine
    Tian1-Xiang1-Huei2-Wei4 ¤õÁç«° Mongolian hotpot
    ¥Ã©M¨§¼ß Traditional breakfast
    ¤s¦è¤M«dÄÑ - beef noodles
    Chu's ¦¶°OÀ`»æ - beef-stuffed pancakes

my roommates (more familiar with japanese food) also recommends:
ªÎ«e«Î - traditional japanese marinated eel on rice (ummm...)
    ¤C±øÀs - suki-yaki
and if your budget is up to it, definitely visit some of the better teppan-yaki and sushi places...

the pricier Chinese and Japanese restaurants are on the gourmet guide, and are usually attached to some major hotel. but you'll probably have to get a group of your friends to go together, and be prepared to dish out 30-40 bux... but definitely have a feast before you go (anyone getting married you know? somebody's momma having a birthday? and the smartest way? get the government to pay for it! join some of those govt-sponsored youth programs!)... you should definitely consult an english restaurant guide from the bookstore or the tourism board for hints and the best dishes.

um, sorry to briefly interrupt the eatery reviews, but if Yao is going to shoot over 60%, I don't know if I want him tossing the ball back out half the time. Franchise shot less than 42% last year (I think). Both guys will have about equal turnovers, so it comes down to %. If you're reading this Yao, shoot more than you pass! :D

Cato, btw, the PINATA of this bbs, actually shot over 50%, (mostly dunks, it's true). But still...
