if the salary worked...and if we could move up in the draft packaging our 2 picks (in that situation) to another team.. and maybe draft Conley/Law or someone to replace the departed Alston.. then maybe.

But someone above said the money doesn't work. I'm too lazy to check.

(at our current pick, I really think we should nab Crittenton..)

Yes the guy who would take it to the hole and dunk on anyone in his way or draw a foul, The guy who would be on either the receiving or giving end of an alley.

Unlike our current crop of players who slow it down everytime.

We would have 2 draft picks and the MLE. We could potentially draft McRoberts or Splitter with one pick and then pick up Crittenton with the other to be groomed to be the pg of the future. That would leave the MLE to add some more depth in the front court.

How can anyone say Francis wouldn't fit here if he was willing to accept a bench role? Do y'all realize we have um....not one decent guard off the bench?

If he's willing to accept a bench role, I think it's worth a shot.

Well, that and if he comes CHEAP.

Otherwise it is a stupid move.

You have got to be out of your mind to want Magloire here. He would be worse with Yao than Howard is. He's slower than Howard and he can't shoot a lick. We need to be getting quicker, not bigger and slower.

Why do you guys think he would have a bench role. He would easily be the starting pg.

    1) Steve Francis is no SG. Never was...never will be. Whatever shooting skills he ever had were based upon the rhythm he gets dribbling to setup a defender.

    2) Steve Francis would NEVER...EVER...sign with Houston to be Rafer Alston's backup. And he'd make that known if that were to ever transpire.

    3) A huge portion of Francis' athleticism is gone. That was his calling card. Emphasis on "was".

    4) If Van Gundy is the 2007-08 coach, there is no way I want to see the VG version of Francis again. If VG is not the coach, Adelman is probably the only coach who could utilize Francis as we'd probably see back screens for him and passes from both TMac and Yao.

Maybe for a vet minimum...definitely not a full MLE. The Rox have far too many holes to fill.

ZOMG YOO R SO RITE!!111 WUT GR8 VIDOES I TOTALLY FORGOUGHT HOW GRATE HE WAS!!!111

ummm no. steve francis couldn't run a fastbreak to save his life. i don't care that you dug up some highlight video of him taking 10 steps to dunk a basketball on a clear runaway fastbreak.

would i take him back for the vet minimum? probably. but the revisionist history with the highlight vidoes is embarrassing. he was and still is a very flawed basketball player and to equate being able to run a fastbreak with dunking ability is laughable at best.

Francis may have lost some of his athleticism and may be turnover prone, but I think he can defensively bolster our backcourt. Also, he can be that elusive and difficult to obtain 3d scoring option that we have coveted for the past 2 years. He still has the ability to create offense for himself and score 20+ pts/game on occassion. Granted, he is not a good spot up 3pt shooter but he will put other teams in the penalty and break down defenses by attacking the basket. Ideally we could get him for the vet minimum, but I wouldn't be horribly upset if he was acquired for the MLE. The Rockets need a homerun this offseason and he could pan out very well.

If we can add him or Mike James (who is probably a better fit than Francis), keep Battier, and add a better PF(who can defend and score to some degree)to replace Howard our offseason will be a success

You're ******* right he will. This year teams were perfectly content to let a one-dimensional Rafer Alston fire away wide-open 3 pointers. With Francis, the defense has to stay honest, and can't sag on Yao and hang around in the passing lanes. He can make them pay.

Much more that can be said of our current guards. And he just ran a few fastbreaks in the video, "couldnt run one to save his life  "

No one disagrees that he has his flaws.
yes, because thats exactly what I did

I guess guys in Houston have a poor memory of Steve Franchise basketball.

I am lucky enough to watch enough New York Knicks basketball to remember how SFs plays. It is always the same story: dribble, dribble, between the leg dribble and shoot OR dribble, dribble, between the leg dribble and turnovers. Steve Franchise hasn't changed his style one bit, man, except he is slower than he used to be.

This guy has heart, no doubt, but he seriously lacks brain, or the basetball IQ. He still makes a lot of silly mistakes and the only thing he could add to Rox for sure is his turnovers. I will love to see how you guys reacts when he and Yao are back together and become the new dynamic due in terms of turnovers.

I had look at a Mobley-Howard trade as well. I'd much rather have Mobley than Francis, Mobley would be a great 6th man if we added someone like that described below. Then we need Shane to hit the weights and practice all summer at the 4 where him and Chuck handle the primary PF load.

There are a lot of other players I go for with an MLE 1st. Mo Williams, Nocioni, Barnes, and Pietrus, I think are my short list. All would bring more athleticism, shooting, youth and flexibility than Francis at this point in Francis's career. I'd probably rather have Atkins (part of MLE) or Mike James (small trade) over Francis as well--both have more team basketball smarts/savvy. LLE for Francis, sure.

IMO we have to add better shooting and length/athleticism to the roster. We always had to choose in this years line-up, no-O Chuck vs no athleticism Howard (which kills next to Yao). Limited J/no drive Rafer versus no handles/undersized 2 Head vs noJ/limited brain Snyder/Wells.

Also, I think it is going to be nearly impossible to land a PF who brings athleticism, an offensive game, and a sound mind. Those guys cost 10 mil in FA. So I think it is a lot more plausible to upgrade by having a tweener forward like Nocioni (if we got him) or Battier (if we added Pietrus/Barnes to play a hybrid SF/SG next to Tmac) to play more 4. I think if we had a bunch of long active mix and match athletic guys in the SG-SF-PF spot it would work better around Yao, and protect Tmac from difficult defensive assingments as well.
