Joe Bidden is still the only Democrat that can beat Trump.

The more Moderate the Dems go they should win. If they go with a far left socialist they have no chance. I think Beto will end up being the candidate.

Beto has no chance. Trump and the Republicans will tear him up.

The issue with the Democrats going moderate is the leftist will find it unacceptable and run third party. The leftist have wrecked the democrat party.

Doubtful that the “leftists” would run a 3rd party candidate; in the end, their goal is to get rid of Trump and they won’t risk failing again. Sure, there will be a token Green Party candidate, but I doubt they gain any traction in this race.

3rd party candidate would most likely come if a far left candidate is elected in the primary. Schultz has already brought that idea up when he announced his candidacy.

Realize that this is primary season; most candidates move towards their base right now in order to win the primary. Most will move back towards the center once they pivot to the general election. I say most due to Trump bucking the trend on the right and being successful at it. Unless Bernie wins the nomination, I doubt any of the other serious Dem candidates would stay that far left.

I would really rather not see a 77 year old Joe Biden square off against a 74 year old Donald Trump for President.

Kamala Harris just doesn't have what it takes to be considered a legitimate Presidential contender. I get that she paid her dues by servicing Willie Brown, but she has no accomplishments to her name and isn't charismatic. The media will lend their full support by marketing her like a bottle of Pepsi, which will help... but she's just not a natural politician and I question whether she has the IQ and inner fortitude to withstand the long campaign process. Her candidacy would be a great feel good story for all Jamaican-Indian-Canadian-Americans, however.

    GOOD DAY

All roads lead to Warren being the best candidate.

But that's in my idealized world where nuanced policy discussion wins elections rather than political rally platitudes.

Oh **** I just woke up from my dream and Joe ****ing Biden is the DNC candidate. God help us .

once again "Traitor_Jorge" is publicizing his ignorance, what else is new !

for the education of the ignorant one

Willie Brown never was a power broker
he was popular in his own Ca district, in the Oakland/SF metro area, but not outside that area
despite serving in the Calif Assembly for > 30 years, he never ran for Calif state-wide office
he was smart enough to realize that he was not popular outside that SF/Oakland metro area
he was distrusted / hated by Southern Calif voters, which is more populous than NoCalif

Kamala Harris, from the less populated Northern Calif region, won two state-wide elections,
beating a popular DA from the more populous So Calif region for the State AG office
beating a 10-term popular Congress women from the more populous So Calif region for the US Senate,
w more thant 60% of the votes

Would be nice, but I gave up on this pipe dream a while back simply because it would require Republicans to actually have a spine. Even if someone like Romney or Kasich did step up, all Trump would have to do is tweet that he's a "total loser" and his base would eat it up like raw meat. Primary over.

Besides, Kasich's views on abortion means he'll never win the nomination.

Nope, we're stuck with this buffoon as the nominee. And most likely the POTUS for the next 4 years.

Trump is doing exactly what he promised his base he would do - PISSIN' OFF THE LIBERALS!!!!!!111. That's literally all his supporters care about.

That's true enough. Whether he was smart enough or simply enjoyed his SF life is up for debate, re: running for statewide office.

Here's a fun perspective from master-politician Willie himself. (I'm a fan of his simple analyses, and he's not wrong very often.) Here, he agrees with our own @ima_drummer2k.

I'm not concerned about someone beating trump for the nomination. I'd like to see a serious challenger so that he has to spend time and effort (and money) fending off a Kasich or Romney. But you're right. The GOP as currently constructed doesn't have the balls to challenge him.

    logistically wise,

being the Gov / AG or another other state-wide elected officer would be that same as
the Speaker of Calif's General Assembly, no?

these positions are all based in Sacramento

I think all the main Dems have a decent chance against Trump. Trump has pretty much maxed out on poorly educated whites, the racists ,the misogynists, brainwashed Fox and WSJ editorial page followers, those who feel Trump is a good Christian man who would never pay for a mistress's abortion, those who families have voted GOP since Eisenhauer and WW II, and the cynical upper class who will hold their nose on the disgraceful Trump for more tax breaks. This gives Trump an upper ceiling of 46% with a possible 51 percent of the anti-democratic electoral college relic.
