I think Steve really means it this time. I also agree that JVG should let Steve sit out the rest of the preseason, so he can watch all of his teammates play and see what their strengths and weaknesses are. As the PG, it would REALLY help to just sit back and scout his teammates like that.
As Steve has said this sort of thing before and if I am not mistaken on a number of occasions. I will just hope that he remembers to put it into action, it can only be positive for the Team Concept. It brings about a feeling of hope, very positive indeed. 'Actions speak louder than Words"
Steve heaves it up ~27 times and that is seen as evidence that he is willing to sacrifice for the team? For some reason the game was not televised here in Kings' Country, so I diodn't get to see it. Maybe all of his shots came off of a give and go type situation where Steve Fancy was the cutter receiving the pass. Otherwise, I don't see how somebody jacking it up almost 30 times can be seen as sacrificing his scoring for the team game. Jeez, he shot more than any 2 other Rockets (or any two Kings not named Peja Stojackitup) combined.
The pieces will fall into place and we will have a solid foundation for a future chamionship by the end of this year. This is my (hopeful) prediction!
It's called deductive reasoning. I acknowledged that it was possible that he somehow was on the recieving end of 20 passes for shot attempts while making cuts to the basket. Given Steve's history, his low FG% in this game, the composition of the lineup around him (not many great passers, mostly Yao), and the 7 assists given out by his teammates, I think it is not un unreasonable hypothesis that Steve tried to take over the game by himself and in doing so shot more than twice as much as any other player on the team. So, yes I still felt justified in criticizing him, or at least reighning in some of the most likely unwarranted praise he is receiving for comments that he has made many times before but has never lived up to.
How about the fact that they won and led most of the game. What does your deductive reasoning tell you about that?
Okay, well I SAW the game. Steve jacked up just as much shots as he usually does. He did his usual 1 v 1 like every other night. The reason things didn't look so bad is becaue he kept getting the calls. He took a bunch of cross-over-jumpers and missed more then he made. I have the game taped so if you don't believe me, I'll can even tell you the clock time every time he did this. Seriously, taking 27 shots AND 13 free throws in 1 game and some of you are trying to say he SACRIFICED?
Well, several posters did post on this board that the ball moved around better and most of steve's shot came in the flow of the game. But I din't see it either so I can't critique in any way.
btw I think Francis played a hell of a game and carried the Rockets to this win. Yao played pretty crappy and got bailed out many times by foul call.
Steve played like crap last night, but nobody else was hitting anything either, and Yao was in foul trouble. Nachbar and Jackson were a combined 8-25. At least Steve can get to the basket and draw fouls...
hmmm, so who was the other offensive powerhouse that was supposed to shoot? maybe jvg told francis he had the green light since there was no one else on the court that could score? maybe you should just be happy the rockets won.
why would you say tha yao played pretty crappy? did you see him make those freaking free throws? he was 9 for 10 on FT's last night...a good center draws the foul on the inside if he cant make the basket anyway and we're lucky as hell that he can shoot freethrows that well
I am working till eleven, so until then, here: http://scores.nba.com/games/20031014/HOUSAC/PlayByPlayPrint.html. He took 13 jump-shots and made a whooping 2.
I just wanted to see if you would actually sit by your vcr with a pad and paper because I dared you to. Please don't!
It tells me the Webberless Kings played like a steaming pile of dog crap and the highlight of their game was the play of Gerald "Fourth String" Wallace.
