Whoa...Stern says he wants to address homerism on local broadcasts? Do Tommy Heinsohn and Sean Elliott know this?

to be fair, whilst there's clearly ref issues, a lot of the local broadcasts make it seem far worse than it really is, and one way.

Maybe this is because I grew up watch Worrell and Calvin Murphy announce play-by-play on Fox Southwest...

...but I've always been under the impression that homerism is just a part of local broadcasts. Maybe Stern is attacking homerism because:

    A) He is retiring after next year
    B) Local broadcasts are used for NBA TV and NBA League Pass
    C) All of the above

They don't call him the commissar for nothing.

controlling "homerism" means no harsh critiquing of his minions.

next up, delete all videos on you tubes tagged with bad officiating.

Of course some are more bias than others, but you can't tell them not to be. Of course the 50/50 calls are going to be viewed in favor of the home team by the commentator

this announcement actually makes one ponder what $tern has planned for these playoffs to make him pre-emptively strike down anyone not with him and aginst him......maybe we see a bunch of 1st round series massaged to go the length to 7 games..

The hometown broadcasters can't help but see things like they do, they're fans too. They are actually more than fans. They travel with the team, they know the players and the coaches on a personal level. Worrell has called almost every Rocket game for almost a quarter of a century, how is he not going to be a homer. Bullard and Clyde are both former Rockets, you know they are going to be homers. I watch the games with my own two eyes, so I make my own decisions about what I see on the court. I don't always agree with our announcers, and I don't always agree with the national announcers. I don't view homerism as a problem.

Watch Knick and Net games with Mike Breen and Marv Albert. Clyde Frazier was a Knick. You can be a former player and not be so blatantly homer about it. Sports play-by-play and commentators are supposedly PROFESSIONALS, they should act like pros of their craft. That's the difference between them and us common fans.

By the way, the Boston Celtics crew are one of the worst.

B is probably a good point, I'd imagine some of the homerism would be affecting the likelihood people resubscribe.

There is no way to overstate how bad NBA officiating is. NBA officials are by far (not even a close 2nd) the worst officials in professional sports. Nothing is consistent, what is a foul in the 1st quarter is often not a foul in the 4th quarter, there are stretches during a game where some officials will wait and see if the shot falls before calling a foul etc.....
