You're a black guy walking down a dark alley and you see a 300 pound redneck with a dirty blonde mullet sticking out of his John Deere cap wearing a Stars and Bars Tank Top with multiple holes in the side and a .22 in his pocket... What do you do?
I saw that .. . between that and PSYCHE Really and Seriously are being typical responses Rocket River
I'd think .. . man this is a typical scene in La where I grew up then I'd probably call him by name Rocket River
A few racist red flags come up just scanning through this post so you know not to even bother reading it. Saying those things doesn't make you a racist but i always notice that racists tend to use phrases like these.
I expected posts against what I said. I also expected people to act like they would in fact approach a huge black guy in the middle of an empty street at night, but in reality they wouldn't. A black woman would probably not even want to approach that huge black man in the middle of an empty street at night. You watch the news, you should know. In statistics, you only need a sample of the population to make conclusions about that population. Of course not all blacks are criminals, not all Hispanics are dishwashers, not all Asians are hard working, not all whites are snobby. But statistically speaking, these stereotypes portray a large enough sample for each race to have such conclusions. Can we agree that most general labor jobs are done by Hispanics? I see only the Hispanic race at the Home Depot waiting for people to pick up. So what's wrong with the sterotype that Hispanics are good for general labors? It means they are the hardest workers. It's a compliment. If you don't want to be labeled as something, then don't portray yourself as such. If you don't want to be mistaken for a crook, then don't dress or act like one. What is wrong with dressing properly? Look at Obama, is he not who black people look up to? Well, he has nothing in common with some of his fellow men who have tattoos, piercings, pants sag to their butts, etc. He's black too, why is he not under any stereotype for black people? If a black man walks up to me in a suit or something decent and asks to borrow a dollar for the Metro, I would definately give it to him. But if he has tattoos, piercings, smells bad, and has a thugish appearance, walks up to me at night to borrow a dollar for the Metro, I wouldn't want to take out my wallet, even though he could be a clean guy. Of course, some of you would say you'd take out your wallet just to prove me wrong. Look at teachers, professors, doctors, professionals. They don't portray themselves in a way to get the bad stereotypes. But wait, what about guys like Iverson and Carmelo? They look thuggish and all. But these guys never roll by themselves and are already famous, so whatever they look like is fine. I know I kind of went off topic from the original post. The original poster should not be so sensitive if he's labeled wrong. It's not the end of the world.
Treemac - I understand what you're saying to a degree, sure there are certain characteristics that can be attributed to a certain number in every race, but pointing out differences should not be a focal point. There are also a lot of them that are stereotype that are unfounded and taken from the bad apples in the bunch, and in some cases just plain ridiculous... such as back when millions of people thought Jews were a demon race that went around poisoning wells and such. I think what you need to understand that negative stereotype and preconceived notion has lead to bigotry and oppression throughout history, sure it makes for great stand-up comedy fodder in this day and age, but you should probably be careful before judging those books by their covers.
Obviously you were serious I'm speechless . . . Rocket River . . . note to self . . . Tree Mac was very serious Learn something about folx everyday
LMAO. see MoBalls, it's a compliment...a freak-ing compliment! RR, he has to be joking...because it just got funnier.
WTF. Where are you getting your statistics from, sir? Who's doing this "large enough sample"? Don't make up stuff, sir. This makes me mad. I want to go back to your FIRST hatred-full post, which now has become a CLASSIC. You said: Then you said, in your "I knew I'd get a backlash" response: How did the huge black guy in the first post portray himself, may I ask?
I am white and worked for a contractor on and off for a while as a part time job. I used to have people stop all the time and ask me if I could help them with a job or if I knew anyone who could. It was all over Houston and not always neighbors so they did not all know if I lived at the locations or not. I didnt have a work truck and worked alone a lot. I think this is a common thing especially with women. It is more of women not knowing how to do these things and seeing a man that can do them. Us men would never stop and ask for help with these because of pride but women would. If she was being racist she would assume you couldnt speak english ha
Aren't you Yanks to busy shooting each other to worry about racism? Oh, gotta go, the Crocodile is fighting with my pet Kangaroos!
Who calling "Yank," Bushman? (I don't even know if that's a term... or offensive... but I'm no "Yankee.")
