Forgot about that. Probably making BANK.

Good point. It is fair to say that he is making millions even in his older age.

Off topic, what type of a mascot is Ducks? Doesn't sound intimidating at all (what is the opposite of intimidating? That is what it is. Lame).

$1.4 million. Yes, that's not million(s) as in plural. He probably makes $800k after taxes, which clearly isn't enough to make his bills.

A few months back, Wells Fargo is asking for $16 million back from Marbury that is not being paid.

$800k vs $16 million. I would be crying my eyes out and begging for an NBA job. Even an 4 year MLE contract can cover his $16 mil loan. If he could make the money to cover the loan now, he would be out of China on the first plane to the NBA.

Well cost of living in China is lower.

    Also

Think of endorsements? Think of his Starbury line of shoes?

He has the biggest fanbase in the world, possibly of any basketball player period.

He has been promoting the hell out of his Starbury brand since he got to China. It hasn't been as successful as you think. The Starbury company defaulted on $16 million and the pledged collateral wasn't enough to cover it. If the Starbury brands makes another $16 million success in 2012, that would be $32 million in defaulted loans.

    Wait, what's your point again?

Yes, he's pretty much done in the NBA.
No, he isn't making NBA money in China.
Yes, a MLE is worth >$16 mil.
Yes, he is trying to promote his shoe line in China with the help of team's ownership.

And are you actually to insinuate that Marbury is bankrupt? He's got more than enough assets to cover a $16 mil loan.

You're trying really hard to connect the dots.

The funny thing is, you're not actually *wrong* about any of this (I'm sure Marbury would love another shot at the NBA, both for the money and the prestige), but it's just strange how you've managed to shoehorn all this into a thread about his CBA team doing well and him getting emotional over a Finals victory.

I mean, I'd love a 4-year MLE contract too, but I don't wake up hating myself everyday that Morey doesn't call me with an offer.

I really like the Starbury brand. I hate that Steve & Barry's went bankrupt. Used to love going there, and they went under just after opening a location in my hometown. I still own 4 pairs of his sneakers and a Starbury jacket.

He has been promoting since his arrival, but his marketing with the Beijing Ducks is just starting. You do realize he was hated his first go-around in the CBA, right?
How the hell can you say his brand isn't doing well when his marketing image is barely getting started.

Yes, Starbury defaulted on 16 mil when Steve and Barry's went down, and his real estate business got liquidated to pay the debt. He doesn't currently owe this debt, as far as I know. Marbury, as dumb as he may seem, is nowhere near Antoine Walker territory.

Sure he does, that's why the loan is current. oops not.

Making millions doesn't mean it's impossible to go broke. Former NBA/NFL players actually hit bankruptcy at an alarming rate. I can't remember the number, but I saw the statistic in some story about Sprewell and some former NBA ballers that lost their houses in foreclosure. You should be able to find it on your own.

Uh... I'm saying his real estate assets were already liquidated and they are enough to pay the debt.

And what have you done in life? Probably nothing worth a percent of what Marbury has done. He is the one that should be laughing at you.

Wish there was more genuine emotion like that in the NBA.

Despite his antics starbury is one of the people I like in sports. He made good affordable shoes for 15 bucks. I don't see kobe, lebron, durant, dwade or any other modern athlete doing that.

I totally forgot about that , and that was a great thing too. People need to stop writing people off for little things.
