Stephen Silas on KPJ: "He can have the ball a little bit more..."

Here is what KPJ needs to cut out of his game ASAP; jumping without a plan and being forced to take a bad shot or make a bad pass when he dribbles into coverage. I saw at least a couple of times when he dribbles into paint traffic and then forces up a bad miss against 2-3 defenders. Even if he hits the shot, it was still a bad shot and a bad decision. In those situations, he has to dribble back out and reset the offense as soon as he sees his lanes getting cut off. That's PG 101 and I don't understand why that's still an issue he is having.

KPJ had a good game last night. So did Jabari and Jalen all the while KPJ was the PG. He's got things to work on, but I see Silas' vision for KPJ.

 

I do agree with you on that point. We don't lack scoring if there is good ball movement and that does start with KPJ. He was passing the ball better in the preseason. He's showing tunnel vision right now.

 

Exactly. The entire team has plenty of things to work on, it's what happens when you have such a young team.

KPJ improved from last year, that's obvious, let him play, its early in the season...

 

You give them FAR too much credit, they'd be complaining about him no matter what happens. For most of them it's not rational or intelligent.

 

There's no doubt that his 3 point shooting is excellent and consistent. His FT shooting is improving as well. He does need to run the offense better and play better defense.

 

It's funny watching certain fanbases be flummoxed by the lack of development by certain players. KPJ basically being the same guy for 3 years now. SGA over in OKC. The Magic fans were really thinking Franz was a superstar talent. Evan Mobley has the offensive ability of a baby giraffe. Scottie Barnes would be a downgrade from KPJ at the point which is saying something. I won't say anything about Cade just yet because I think he does have ability but...him and Giddey aren't that far apart so far this year.

 

I would agree that he needs to get better running the offense, but he's young and he's already made a lot of progress so I'm sure he'll get where he needs to get.

As to defense, he's already more than sufficient, but everyone can improve.

All 22 year old players ever have a lot to work on KPJ is certainly no exception.

Jalen Green had 25 in the 3rd qtr and never touched the ball again for goodness sake.

Blaming that on KPJ.. so why didn’t Jalen touch the ball again when KPJ was on the bench?

 

Its just 4 games, but you can see him being more controlled and he doesn't pout like he did last year. Again its early but he said himself he looked in the mirror and knows his downfalls...As of right now he has improved his shooting, rebounding and steals..I mean you cant deny the numbers

 

KPJ’s handles, 3pt shooting, rebounding and free throws have all noticeably improved. It is disingenuous to imply that Porter hasn’t improved.

Green can be overly passive at times and disappears for stretches. That’s on Green not Porter.
